Reverend Charles Aubrey Thompson, 93, of Little Rock, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 18, 2013. He was born March 6, 1919 in Plumerville, Arkansas, a son of the late Roy Hayden and Ruth Ellenor Harrison Thompson. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Ouachita Baptist College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree, and he graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he received a Master of Divinity degree. He pastored the following churches: Brown Springs Baptist, Arkadelphia, Arkansas, El Paso Baptist, El Paso, Arkansas, Lexie Baptist, Tylertown, Mississippi, Baskin Baptist, Baskin, Louisiana, First Baptist Church of Gravel Ridge, North Little Rock, Arkansas, First Baptist, Marvell, Arkansas. He did Baptist Pioneer Mission work in Arizona and California. He taught high school at Marvell High School, Marvell, Arkansas, Salome High School, North Yuma County School District in Salome, Arizona, and at John L. McClelland High School, Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a member of Arkansas Education Association, Arkansas Teachers of English, National Teachers of English, past member of the Lion’s Club and Masons. He volunteered at Baptist Health Medical Center, with over 10,000 hours of service. He was a member of Baptist Health Little Rock Auxiliary. He started the Heart Resource Center at Baptist Health Medical Center in honor of his wife of 62 years, Sara Kathern Traylor Thompson. As a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, he taught Sunday school for many years, and started Sunday school classes in several nursing homes. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters, and one great-grandson.

He is survived by his son, Charles A. Thompson, Jr. and his wife Karen, of Wheaton, Illinois; daughter, Lynda Marc Thompson Currie of Little Rock; grandchildren, Charles A. “Chip” Thompson, III and wife Kelly, Sara Kimberly Thompson, Paul Bryan Currie, Charles David Currie and wife Becky, Kathren Lynda Currie Rutledge and husband Mike; great-grandchildren, Tanner Christian Thompson, Elijah Wilson Currie, Sara Ellyn Kiernan, and Janey Currie; brother, Thomas Harrison Thompson; sister, Delphia Dillaha; and numerous relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 21, 2013, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, (501)224-8300.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Immanuel Baptist Church, with Dr. Gary Hollingsworth officiating. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway.
