Stephanie Butler (Percefull)

I just wanted to update you all on our weather situation with hurricane Ike. I live in Katy, which is a western suburb of Houston. We are approx. 60 miles from the gulf coast. Currently, the winds are about 25-35 mph and it is starting to sprinkle. As of right now, our side of the storm is the "clean" side. We are expected to see sustained winds of 70-85 mph for about 6 hours and lots of rain for about 12 hours. If I am able to do so, I will update you. Thank you so much for all of the well wishes and prayers. We will gladly take them :)

Stephanie - at what point will they make you (where you are located) evacuate your homes? I cannot even imagine having to pick up myself, kids, dog(s) and a few things and leave like that and not be able to go home until clearance was given. Have they told you what to expect? Hang in there! We are all praying for you all down there! Mother and Daddy have friends there, too, and we haven't gotten much information from them.

TAKE CARE!

Love,
Amy

We are thinking of the classmates in Texas, right now. The Prayer Warriors are Praying!!!

Amy, you can make the donation either for a walker or directly to our team - which ever you prefer. The important thing is that the donations come in somewhere!

You Texas folks - don't wait for the last minute! Get out and avoid the rush hurricane traffic! And I have a spare bedroom too! So feel free to call my cell if you need a place to stay 501-258-0612.

Hey everyone!

Just a quick note to let you know that as of yesterday at noon, we were ordered to evacuate. We are in Austin with my mother and are safe. Our neighborhood is already without power and is starting to flood. I don't know what to expect.......we only have to hope that we have something to go home to. I want to thank all of you for your loving concern and prayers.

Stephanie: Hold on to your hat and your kids and HANG ON!!!
Bryan: So far, here in the Austin/San Marcos area, we are doing good. Let's hope it stays that way!

To anyone else that is here in Texas, please stay safe and listen to the authorities. We will get through this.......we Texans (even the "transplanted Texans") are tough! We can do this!

I am exhausted from a long night with Ike! And, I am very thankful for electricity. We lost power at 9:30 p.m. last night and just got it turned back on...22 hours later! The rains were minimal but the winds made up for that! It is hard to believe that winds can blow so hard for so many hours. I am use to tornadoes that leave as quickly as they arrive. Hurricane Ike was a good 12 hours of winds that varied anywhere from 25-85 mph. Unbelievable stuff. I have posted some cool pictures of the clouds on my profile. We took them before it got to dark and dangerous. The photos don't do Ike justice. You could actually see the clouds swirling up in the sky around us as they were moving in. As far as property damage, we were one of the lucky few that sustained no damage. Many of our neighbors weren't quite so lucky. Thank you all for your well wishes and especially the prayers. You are such an awesome group of friends!

Just an update........

We now know that our area is under water. We don't know how much we have left as of yet, however, we do not have electricity and have been told by authorities that we won't have any for at least two weeks. It is going to be a long haul! I am going to try to go home on Monday, however, the police have told me that we may not be able to get in even then. I am to call them before we leave Austin. Other than that, we are doing well. I have just told myself that I am not going to worry about this until I know what I have to worry about. Here's hoping! Thank you for all your kind thoughts and well wishes. We really appreciate it! Stephanie, I am so glad that you were one of the lucky ones!

Stephanie- Glad to hear that you are in the clear.

Patti- Sorry you where flooded. Prayers are with you now and in the clean up phase of this storm.

Bryan - Hope you fared well.

If anyone is on the forum today that remembers how to make a paper football. The ones we used to play with during class and use the other persons fingers as the goal- email me. Thanks. Trying to impart the old games to my kids and am having no success. The spouse is gone cleaning up his families downed trees from the storm in Hot Springs. Need help.

Kim-
I will go there right now. I kept coming up with extra paper and no where for it to go.
Thanks again.

Kim- Thank you again. My daughter and I just finished it and are ready to play.

Remember all the things you can play during school without it costing alot , though sometimes getting into trouble. Like rock, paper, scissors. Hand games-like Mary Mac Mac Mac all dressed in Black, Black Black... And those oragami like paper things where you had people ask questions and you would open the paper with an answer in it depending how you answered the question.

Remember writing sentences for talking in class or chewing gum?? The things you remember on a Sunday afternoon. :)

Karen...

You forgot about the string thing...the only one I can remember is Jacob's Ladder....now I'm gonna have to google that and see if there is a video on all the designs you can make with a string...LOL.

Kim- I got a a book last year at christmas for my daughter showing all of these string creations. To say the least she was dissappointed until she saw me work the string. Of course I practiced with it a week before she got it, so I could show them to her. Then it was a cool gift.

The book is called "Cat's Cardle" and it shows how to do of course cats cradle, jacob's ladder, effifel tower, cup and saucer , witch's broom, and cat's whiskers. It comes with its own string. It is written by Anne Akers Johnson.

I get it out every once and awhile for the nastalgia of it all and really still do get a kick out of it. I took it to work one day and it brought memories back for all the women I work with, as well.

If anyone firgures out how to make the paper thing where you ask the questions, ask it who I will marry. That's the one we always made and I would be interested to know. It would make dating a lot simplier.. I could just say "sorry, you have the wrong name. Next!"

Liz- hahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Liz- I shouldn't laugh. I will not take away your dreams. I will try and make one of those paper things and send it to you. As for the mens names to go in it, maybe a dart and a phone book. Stranger things have happened.

dart and phone book is not scientific like the magical folded paper fortune telling thingie...

RACE FOR THE CURE!

Today in my mailbox, I found my 2008 Race for the Cure t-shirt. It has been redesigned, and is WONDERFUL!!! For those of you who have not signed up as yet, get on the site and get cracking!

Kim, you will have to make the magical, highly scientific, fortune telling apparatus for me. I am pretty sure it does not work if you make it yourself. You make me one, I'll make you one, then we will go trolling. (a-trolling we will go, a-trolling we will go, hi ho the hot babes, a-trolling we will go!)

Can you believe how cool it is in the mornings?
Fall like weather is approaching, the State Fair will come, and wearing of sweaters, next the race for the cure and then Halloween. Time flies.

Stephanie - have you heard anything else from Patty? I know she posted she was going to try to go home Monday, but haven't heard anything else. Just checking in with all you guys who went through the hurricane! Please keep us all posted!

09/17/08 10:29 AM #651

Stephanie Butler (Percefull)

Hey Amy ~

I have not heard from her. I sent her an email on Facebook and told her to contact me once she got back to town. I thought she might need a place to stay. Our cell phones are not working very well and our home phone just came back on yesterday. Where she lives is right at sea level near the NASA area. So I am certain that her house is flooded and is still without power. If I hear from her, I will post a note to everyone.

I just got an email from Patty...

She is still unable to get to her house, but she knows that it has flooded, and surprisingly, the power is back on! (Her son in law is working with FEMA and apparently has been by there) Her work is still closed due to lack of power and the whole situation is pretty stressful.

Cell service is getting better but she has been unable to contact many of her friends that were in areas even worse hit than she was.

She is very appreciative of all the concern from the classmates and will try to keep us posted as things progress, but the waiting and uncertainty are the hardest parts right now.

In true "Patty form"...she asks that we keep those even worse off than her in our thoughts and prayers.
