Patty Heathcoat (Figueroa)

Hi everyone! I just wanted to thank all of you for the caring thoughts and prayers. We are now home and although we have a lot of work to do, we are glad to be "in the muck"! Things can only go uphill from here. I will try to keep all of you posted on the progress. Again, THANK YOU!

Cyndi Jones (Sweger)

Thanks Elizabeth .. I am getting excited about coming home and seeing everyone! I have alot of trips coming up. This weekend my boss has rented a house a Smith Mountain Lake in southern Virginia, we do this every year. Its a good time and a great excuse to drink and make fools of ourselves! The following weekend we'll be in Gatlinburg with some friends. We rented a castle for 5 days and are really looking forward to it. We usually go down in March for our anniversary and again in October for my birthday. Then 2 weeks later we'll be in Little Rock for the race/walk ... ! I'm getting excited! Do we have a game plan yet for meeting up, or is it too crazy to try and meet up, and do something later on?

To everyone in Ikes path .. I hope that everyone made it out ahead of time and safely. I hope you have homes to go back too ... I'll keep everyone in my thoughts and prayers!

Stephanie, I'm glad you're okay! I have some friends in west Houston who lost trees but thankfully that was the only damage (the trees went into their neighbors' homes, pools and yards).

Patty, do you have running water or are you in the area w/out it?

Been praying for all y'all!

Cyndi and all racers...
the morning of the race, we will meet near the left front side of the stage (as close as we can get to it). When I say left front, I mean as you are facing it, it will be to the left. We will meet 15-20 minutes before the race begins so we can get in line more to the front instead of the back (The back is awful - you shuffle instead of walk).
If you want to carpool, we will meet early at a mutually agreed upon place(s). I think it would be a good idea to have a couple (or 3 or 4) of carpool places so it would be easy for folks to ride together. I like to stroll around and get goodies (fruit, scarves, lipstick, water), so I will personally want to head out early.
We should start discussing meeting places. I like Kroger on Cantrell (Heights), for folks on this end of town. What do you all think for other areas? I am clueless.

OK EVERYONE ~~~~ I just managed to logon through the Race for the Cure tab on our webpage and make a couple of donations for team members April and Vicki, my good old (not really that OLD) buddies!!! I encourage everyone to jump in and give a little something to this great cause!! We need a cure for this type cancer as well as many other forms of it! I applaud all of our participants . . . . who knows when I might just show up that weekend, but wanted to do this anyway!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!!

Liz said: "I am clueless." Please tell me you did NOT just open that door. ;)

On a non-hurricane, non-race related note I would like to share that my youngest has cut his first two teeth, is doing the Army crawl, sits without support and is pulling himself to his knees. We've officially moved him out of the bassinet in order to prevent him from taking a header onto the floor. I'm sure this brings back fond memories for many of you! ;)

Now if we could just get him to sleep through the night...I would be much less tired! ;)

Did the guys bail or what.

Idiots

Mike Oliver

My son Josh, ran 3 touchdowns Friday night!!! Union Christian 42 Panama Ok. 13. I am so proud!!!

09/20/08 06:06 AM #661

Karen S. Wise (Owenson)

Mike- we are proud with you for Josh. Tell him "way to go".

Gina- Since the baby is now being more active then that means your youngest will hopefully get tired sooner and hopefully rest all night. Here's hoping with you for a long nights sleep.

My son took his road test yesterday and passed. I am proud he passed both the written and driving parts on the first time and I was his "coach"(scared coach). Kids inspire eruptions of pride and joy.

Patty - Do you have mail service? If so maybe the Lions could send some essentials to help with the clean up(bottled water, paper towels, non-perishables, etc..). Just let us know, what we can do and where to send it.
Prayers are still with you.

09/20/08 09:48 PM #662

Gina Martin (Eggebrecht)

Mike - congratulations to your son! :)

Karen - he took his driving test? Oh yay to him for passing - but, how late will you be up waiting on him to come home? (see, that lack of sleep thing is NEVER going to get better for me!)

I know that'll be here before I know it. Elizabeth (my 5 y/o) asked me earlier this week, "Mommy, when will I be able to drive?" I told her "In 11 years, when you're 16." Her next question? "Okay, when will I have a loose tooth?" What a sweet juxtaposition.

09/20/08 09:53 PM #663

Patty Heathcoat (Figueroa)

Gina - I just got running water today, however, we still cannot drink it. I bet I have flushed the toilet ten times today just to hear the water fill the bowl! My, how we take things for granted!

Mike - Tell your son "way to go"!!!!

Karen - Any of the above! You can send things to my daughter's address at 2802 W. Bay Area Blvd. #2001, Webster, TX 77598, care of Lindsey McCall. Any excess I will share with the local shelter.

Again, thank you everyone for everything. I can't tell you how much we appreciate it!

I will be returning to work on Monday morning. Needless to say, I will be very busy trying to get back to normal. I hope everyone has a great week!

Here it is, all the news that's fit to print from the last Lion's Night Out of the summer.

Monday is officially the first day of fall...and as hard as it is to avoid cliches, sometimes the only reason they became cliche is because they are so true and substitutes never convey the same meaning.

Time marches on...things change...the more things change, the more they remain the same...some things never change...history repeats itself...

As I was organizing my thoughts about last night (and considering a heating pad for my aching ribs...sore sore sore from laughing so much) the many shades of change kept creeping into my mind.

Several familiar faces were missing without a hall pass...were the Razorbacks that depressing? Is the change of seasons that confusing? Surely it wasn't an epidemic of Jr High-itis. Whatever the reason, we hope to see you back with us next time!!

We were thrilled to see newlyweds (June) Chris Smith and his lovely wife, Joyce. I started to say that Chris hasn't changed a bit, but that really isn't correct...if anything he has become even more "Chris-like", as several of you may have figured out after talking to him, or checking your voice mail. That's right, we all thought that Caroline was the master of drunk dialing...but Chris took the concept to a whole new level and managed the phone like a pro. (and when I say Pro...think of company like Roy D. Mercer, Craig O'Neill and Crank Yankers)

Private message to Steve, Mike, Kim, Dena (hope you are feeling better!) Robby, Kyle, Jeff, Ralph, Keith,...
Chris is not stuck in a ditch, he doesn't really need a spark plug, he isn't selling 40 acres, there are no kids on 4-wheelers tearing up his yard, and at least as of a couple of hours ago, he didn't need to be bailed out of jail...

The core group of lionesses, always dependable to ensure a good time, were high on fashion last night...and managed to keep the discussion entertaining for the guys as well as the girls.

Per request, Monica rocked the party in her Versace tiger pants. They were the highlight of the Memphis trip and since Caroline missed it, she asked Monica for a LNO viewing. Those pants really make the party more festive, so hopefully, Monica will bring them out regularly for years to come.

Not to be outdone in the festive department, Caroline was true to her classic style in a luscious sapphire blue blouse that made Chris declare her a Christmas ornament... another reminder of the passing of time...the holidays are just around the corner!

T-Bone actually started the whole fashion discussion when she chided me for "refusing to let the twins breathe". As some things never change, her twins were practically hyperventilating with all the air they were getting!! Where does she find all those shirts?? I don't think I've ever seen her wear the same one twice.

Poor Ricky Marshall...bless his heart...You've got to respect a guy secure enough in his masculinity to not only endure the antics of the lionesses, but to enjoy the silliness while still maintaining the only sense of decorum at the party most of the time!!

We've made the rule, and we're sticking to it...the penalty for consistently missing Lion's Night Out is a good old fashioned "Rolling". Now that we've got Ricky on board, it's about time to start carrying out the threat. See...I happen to know first hand that he is quite skilled, as we participated together in one of the all time best classic rollings in Lion history!! (Could history repeat itself with a new classic?? Halloween is awfully close!)

Everyone that showed up last night got a fun gift bag full of surprises. You never know what you are going to miss out on if you don't attend!! During the few minutes of seriousness, we discussed some activities for the fall that are guaranteed to be huge fun. I can't spill the beans yet...but you don't want to miss out on what's in store for the Lions!!

Till next time, I'll sign off with a new Chris-ism...
Bye and Bye!

Kim M.,
I have to agree with you about Chris Smith's drunk dialing~he's the best! I laughed so much and so hard, I almost peed my pants! I know, TMI.

Had a great time AGAIN last night. Folks, we want to see and visit with you!

Let me know when it's time to go "rolling"!

Hurricane Ike Surviors,
We are still thinking of you! Hang in there!

Karen W.,
Please let me know what I can do to help with your project.

Hope everyone will have a great week! Caroline

Karen S. Wise (Owenson)

Patti- Look for a care package this week. I know you have nondrinkable water but do you have electricity for heating up food items?? I am happy you can flush your toilet.

Wade- Happy birthday.

Kim- Again -love the description. Sorry I missed it. I honestly just fell asleep, sad to say. Anyway don't want to wear out my welcome.

Caroline- Just send things you would want if you did not have access to modern conveniences for food, and hygeine. She listed the address. I just remember when my moms house was hit years back by the tornadoes and all the things she needed to get by. Since I can't travel there to clean with Patti, I will send things I hope will help her make it through. I suggest everyone in our class even if it is one thing, send something. ie. hand sanitizer, chapstick, suntan lotion, handi wipes, paper towels, trash bags, cleansers, bottled water, veinna suasages, poptarts, money cards(so she can pick it out what she needs), etc..

If anyone else want's to contribute to a care package for Patty, please contact me directly Monday by email or phone (number is on my profile). I'll consolidate and send for everyone...and pick up if I need to!!

Ok everyone now I have heard everything. I just heard the latest miracle weight loss secret that is by far the weidest in history. The Gila Monster poisonus lizard has some element in it's spilt that makes you lose weight without dieting. Warning from officials say make sure you let professionals extract the medicimal elements don't try french kissing a lizard you may get a nasty bite. It won't be long before we hear someone die from Gila Monster kissing.

Hey, everybody! I got a new job! With insurance!
I am starting Wednesday as the Assistant Registrar at Pulaksi Tech. Waa hoo!!

Lizard weight loss? Interesting... If I were not afraid of reptiles, I would probably be one of those weirdos trying to make out with a Gila. I would, of course, expect the lizard to buy me a drink first - I mean I'm not that desperate!

Karen S. Wise (Owenson)

Kim- No, thank you. I guess it is like Ex- pres. Bill Clinton says with his Global Inititiaive - we all can do something to help, we just need everyone to get together and a place to get it together. You are that one and that place. Thank you again.

David- I like the thought that those sometimes scarey creatures can give back to society in a way I especially need. If you open a franchise let me know.

Liz- Congrats!! :):) Yipee!!
I am listening to Golden Oldies music in your honor today while I clean house. Al Green's "Let"s Stay together" is rolling now. Enjoy your new job.

Karen, I am cleaning and laundering today too. Going to get everything spic and span so I will have a nice clean house to come home to after work on Wednesday! Fun fun. Oh, well. I do enjoy a clean house so it's worth it.
