Okay, David, that was hilarious! I haven't heard of that diet. I have officially "heard it all"! Liz, your take on the lizard was funny. You have a great sense of humor!!

Patty, I'm so sorry you were affected by the hurricane (and everyone else). Hopefully, they will be done for the year!

Hope everyone is having a great week!!

WARNING.....WARNING....WARNING.....
POLITICAL..POLITICAL...POLITICAL....

Since I identify with the people who fall into Barrack Obama's elitist description about people of faith who keep firearms I'm not very happy with Barrack Obama's recent remarks.

He said something to the effect that us rednecks cling to our guns and our religion when we get frustrated and I would like to take umbrage to these remarks. My faith goes much deeper than his superficial explanation and I love my guns even when I'm not frustrated.

And I am not by myself. I was going to church and shooting guns before Mr. Obama was even born and come from a long line of good people who have been doing it for generations.

To me this latest Obama blunder only helps reveal the depth o f condescension the far left wing of the Democrat party has for the folks out here in flyover country.

Mr. Obama's remarks are insulting to a lot of folks. It's kind of like Abraham Lincoln said, 'God must love the common people because He made so many of them'.

His remarks make me think that Obama doesn't know the people of this country very well. I'm sure he knows the jet set and the Hollywood bunch, the limousine liberals and the save the whales, kill the babies crowd, but does he think that the ordinary people don't count? Does he think that they're so stupid that they don't know who he's talking about when he says these things? Does he think their opinions aren't important?
Apparently.

How can a man stand in front of America and tell people what he wants to do for them and have so little respect for a whole segment of the population? In fact, a very large segment. Does that mean that he would only represent the high-minded liberal ideals of the far left and ignore the rest of us?

What kind of Commander and Chief would he make if he doesn't respect the very people who make up the lion's share of the armed forces?

You may say I'm over reacting, but I'm getting sick and tired of him making these elitist statements and saying that he had been taken out of context or some other flimsy excuse.

After his wife's remark about not being proud of this country and his pastor's statements calling America the U. S.K.K.K.A. And his own statement about not wanting his daughter punished with a baby, it makes me wonder what kind of a man Obama really is and what kind of a president he'd make.

Would he be an antigun advocate pushing the effort to take the firearms out of innocent citizen's hands? Would he not respect the religious beliefs of America, not taking them into account in his agenda?

I really don't know much about the man and neither does America. He basically came from out of nowhere and as the facts come out little by little, they don't make a particularly confident picture.

I have a great fear that if our military gets broken by another President, this time we're not going to have time to fix it again and what that spells for America, I don 't even want to contemplate.

Oh well, I guess I'll grab my gun and go to church.

'As I've said before about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides,' Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'

I don't want this man as the supreme commander of our armed forces
If he can't salute the American flag how can he lead those who will give their lives for it.

Many of you know that our classmate, Keith Evans, is back in Afghanistan working as a paratrooper for the US Army. He has been fighing in this war since the very beginning. I know that he would love to receive a letter of encouragement from each of you. His email address is: keith.evans@us.army.mil

I know we may have a big division in our group politically, and I hope (as some of you have stated) that I don't loose any friends over it, but I must agree with you John. I just can't buy in to OBama and his seeming lack of love and respect for our country. If he has so little love of this country, then why on earth would he want to run the show? Whould he want to make changes so drastic that we would not recognise it? We have problems, the US is not perfect, but there is a reason why we are the only remaining super power and people want to immigrate here - because we are still the best thing going.
I imagine OBama would want to make us a little more like those parts of the world that persons immigrating to the US are trying to get out of. Why did HIS family come here?

Well, crud . . . I got really sick earlier in the week and have seen the GI specialist who did the procedure at the end of July . . . something didn't work. I'm back in pain with plenty of nausea to go around. He is going to re-do the procedure October 23, placing stints in a couple of more places in the bile ducts. Thoughts and prayers much appreciated . . . . I'm so tired of feeling bad!!! I'm thinking maybe acupuncture instead of Mayo trials? I wonder if there are lizards as David Ballou was mentioning for weight loss that might actually help with this problem!!!! EEEK. I continue to be amazed at the damage radiation therapy can cause!

Amy- prayers are with you now.

Patty-prayers still with you- those pictures are an eye opener to the devestation. Thanks for the birdseye view.

Keith- Hang in there. We are all proud of you and the job you do for us at home. Give us your mailing address also so we can send small packages of goodies sparatically. I remember getting packages off and on, lifted my spirit, even if it was gum or handy wipes.

Liz- will my t-shirt come to my house or yours?

To all- pray for our country and our leaders (economically, environmentally, armed forces, and spiritually)

p.s. My mom wanted me to encourage everyone who was going to the movies to see a moive called Fireproof. I think it is about a fireman but it is actually a clean movie. They are wanting to see if the public will see clean movies like this one. If so they may make more.

peace out

Amy, so sorry to hear you are still having problems. I know what it is like to feel like you are just never going to feel good again. BUT - you will!! Keep that thought, and I will say an extra prayer for you.

Just a few thoughts from the front lines, I have read a few posts on here from fellow classmates. Some pro Obama and some pro McCain the beauty of it all is that in America we have the right to choose. Some may think it's not such a big deal, but in 25 years I have been around this big old blue marble and have seen many ways other countries govern their populous. I have come to one conclusion “WE” as Americans have by far the best country in the world. We have the freedom to choose our leaders. We may not always like what they stand for or approve of there polices, but we have the ability to choose that many other people do not.

As this war on terrorism continues many of the young men and women serving in harms way have had their eyes opened to just how great “WE” have it. I remember sitting in Mr. Whites history class and paying little or no attention to words like democracy and what it stands for. Then all these years later I see fledgling democracy in action. I saw how proud the people were to vote for the first time in their lives. Proudly showing the ink stains from their thumb prints used to verify their vote. I wonder if our fore fathers felt the same way after our first election.

Next month the free and not so free world will be watching and waiting to see “OUR” democracy in action. No mater the outcome I will have a new Commander and Chief he will have his own views and opinions and I may or may not agree. But I will support him as I have supported those in the past not for what he or she believes or does not believe, but because democracy has once again spoken and chosen the will of the people.

Rest assured that this war like all wars will come to an end. It is how and when that seems to be at the center of much emotion in American hearts. I only hope that all the personal sacrifices made by the men and women many of whom gave the ultimate sacrifice where not in vain. When I watched my friend bleed out from shrapnel wounds to the neck and slip away from this world, I like to think it was for more than just politics. The U.S. military is an all voluntary force. There is no draft and no one forces those who join. “WE” join because of things like Duty, Honor, and Country. Working towards something greater than just “I” or “ME" those who pick up the torch of freedom do it for the “WE” in this world.

So remember next month when you go to your poling site and close the curtains in the voting booth. It is not the “I” or “ME” you should be voting for. In the big picture of freedom throughout the world you are voting for the “WE” and all of those who wish they to someday can be lucky enough to be part of our “WE”.

On a separate note I would like to thank all of you who have sent encouraging emails to me through my many deployments here in Afghanistan and Iraq they are much appreciated. My best wishes for all of the Class of 1983!

Amy, I'll definitely be praying for you. I have a friend who had radiation therapy for cancer in the late 80s and she's still dealing with issues from it. She calls it "the gift that keeps giving...and not in a good way." I am so sorry you're feeling poorly again. I hope they're able to fix whatever is going on.

Keith - dude, thanks for your words AND for your sacrifice.

Big John - I'm with you on Obama. I admit I initially had my questions about Sarah Palin (but NOT enough to ever make me vote for Obama); however, the more I've learned about her the more I like her - evangelical, gun totin', older mom of little kids...we have a lot in common, she and I.

Now, I'm off to frost some cupcakes. :) And since John Pratte got onto me on Facebook for not sharing Snickerdoodles - everybody c'mon over. Vanilla cupcakes w/vanilla bean swiss meringue buttercream frosting. We can even take spoons and just eat the frosting if ya wanna. ;)

Keith,
Those are some true words of wisdom. I can honestly say that they mean a lot more coming from you than many a other people who say them. You really back them up. Good Luck and God Bless.

Hi everyone .. just playing catch up on the posts. Spent the weekend in Gatlinburg with some friends, back to work today. YUCK!

We are down to less than 2 weeks to the walk, can't wait to get back to Arkansas and see friends and family and walk in the race! I am now sporting a very short, sassy hairdo. Once my hair started growing back, it took off. I am glad to say, I went for my first haircut in 9 months, last wednesday. I so missed the chatting with my hairdresser and the pampering.

Keith ... as the wife of a retired Smsgt for the USAF and mother of a Sgt. in the US Army, thak you for your service. Our son is currently in Iraq for his second tour of duty. Doing great and doing his job. He is a petroleum supply specialist, did his re-enlistment on 7/4 with General Petreaus. I do believe he is going to me a career guy just like is dad. If you need anything, I am the care package specialist! I have a nice supply in my spare room and love shipping stuff out, so just say the word and I am on it! Oh, and I really nejoyed looking at all of your photos you have on here. I've seen tons of photos of Iraq and Kuwait, nice to see something different!

Keith Evans you are a truely great American! Soldiers like you are why our country is great and freeer than any other in the world.
The sacrifice many have given in the war on terror will never be forgotton. Almost everyone has a friend or family they know that lost loved ones in this battle for freedom. The flag is the ultimate symbol for the greatest country to exsist on the planet, and we should remember those who faught for it.
I've been to Washington twice in the past two years and the war memorials are extremely moving and awesome! Until you see Arlington and the sea of white headstones it's hard to understand the numbers who gave all!!
God bless the soldiers and the familes who wait for there return!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, so we have our own Keith Evans and Cyndi's son over in the Sandbox. I'm thinking we need to do care packages for *both* of them. I'm certainly willing to bake cookies and ship them over ala Operation Baking GALS (http://operationbakinggals.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html) Well, provided they can have them - I know they're supposed to know the person who sends homemade stuff, at least that is what I've heard - but Cyndi, if your son knew we were sending them could he have them and share with his fellow soldiers...or hog 'em and say "neener neener neener!"). We can send over any other kind of stuff the guys need or want - Anyone want to join me? I'll email Keith. Cyndi, what do you think about us sending to your son, too? And if so, what kind of cookies does he like?
