Does anyone know how Mike Sellers died?

Laura Mathews (Henry)

Kim, I could be wrong, but I thought I heard he was hit by a car. Very sad!!

Yes, Mike Sellers died ( I think our 10th grade year) after being run over and dragged by a car. He was treated different b/c he was not like most of us but he was always very nice when I was around him.

Talking about Mike Sellers, one memory that sticks out to me is 7th grade athletics. Coach Williams (remember him) said none of us could do 50 push ups. Mike, being the rebel he was, said he could - and he did. One of the few times I saw Coach Williams eat his words.

You are so right, Carrie, he was always so nice. I remember that he would always say "you look nice today", when I was in elem. school. (and he was being sincere), I looked horrendous w/ buck teeth and all, but he was always kind. I know he is in a better place!

Terry Hargrove lives in Pine Bluff. I called him and let him know about this site.

Steve, you completely butchered Itapatichai (I think I did too). Todd thought he was in California somewhere.

I just noticed the message about Mike Sellers. He was love of my life for at least 2 months between 6th and 7th grade :-)! I thought he died earlier than 10th grade?. He WAS a sweet guy with a pretty rough home life.

Slowly, but surely, people are making it in, huh? This is great. Longo, you ROCK!!!

Laurie, I remember Mike Sellers lived in the trailor park off Baseline and Dailey, yes pretty rough. I had him in my 10th grade PE class, that we did nothing in. One day Mike Sellers didn't show up and it was b/c he had been run over. I thought it was so sad.

I have been checking out everyone's profiles. It is so interesting to see what everyone has been up to! (I need to update mine)

Has anyone looked at Beau Bledsoe website? I am so glad to see he has put his incredible talent to use. I think he should play at the reunion. I also noticed that Shanon Smeya is in the music business....just a suggestion.

Steve, remember the story Coach Williams always told about being able to turn the lights off, "then" take off his socks and still be in the bed before it got dark? (Usually right before sprints?)

I always thought Coach Williams was a little on the weirdo side. Now, that english teacher who played Iron Maiden in class was cool. Didn't we have to learn a new word and quote everyday?

And to go wayyy back, I think it was Laura Matthews and Deronda East? used to throw newspapers at me when I'd ride my bike by over on Independence Lane. we were young around 10yrs old and i probably instigated it. something i was good at.

And then there was someone in Mrs Eagles 6th grade English or Math class who wrote cuss words all in a textbook and she blamed me and took me out in the hall and gave me licks for it! I can't remember who wrote in the book, though they told me later they did it. we all had a big laugh

Oh, Rick, did I really? Are you sure? I don't have a memory of that, but it makes me mad to think about it. I hope you are mistaken, but my memory isn't so good anymore. IF indeed I was the brat that did that.......PLEASE forgive me!!!

LOLOLOL!!!! thanks for putting my 88 pic on my profile. my daughter, who is 10, saw it and hollered OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH momma, you looked so young!!!!!! you would think i look 100 years old now. then proceeded to ask me if i still had those earrings, they are cool and she wants to borrow them if i still have them!!!!

Regarding Coach Williams. From what I understand he had something strange going on between the ears. I know of other people that went to Southwest Jr. High School and he caused a stir with a lot of decent academic students; as well as, the athletes. After that time, he got the job at Mabelvale Jr. High School. Interestingly, my brother Keith ran into Coach Williams in Colorado on my brother and sister-in-law's honeymoon/ski trip in 1994. Its a small world. Coach Williams actually gave him a nice compliment. I understand that he was somewhat verbally abusive to the athletes. Thankfully, I did not have him for any classes.

Laura, we havent even made it to the reunion and started drinking. We have all changed in 20 years.

Steve and Jennifer, you have done an amazing job getting this all together. After years it still seems like just yesterday. Probably 10 years ago I was in Boston and got flagged down in traffic by someone who noticed Arkansas tags on the car and she was from Arkasnas. Turns out her husband was Mark Pearrow who graduted the year after us I think. Small world.
