Sergeant First Class Jack Young Lytle, Sr., (US Army, Ret.), 71, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024. Jack was born on September 6, 1952, to the late Cyrus Julian and Esther E. Lytle in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Jack was a man of honor and courage who proudly served 20 years in the Army and Army National Guard, retiring in 2005.His military service was a significant part of his life and reflected his unwavering patriotism and commitment to his country. Those who knew him will recall his steadfast dedication.

Jack attended North Little Rock High School in North Little Rock, Arkansas, graduating in 1970.

His commitment to his education continued at Central Baptist College where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management while serving in the Arkansas National Guard. His academic pursuits were a testament to his belief in the power of knowledge and personal growth. After retiring, he continued to serve his fellow veterans while working at the Department of Workforce Services.

Jack had a rich sense of humor and was never shy when sharing a joke with family and friends. He enjoyed all types of comedy from slapstick to the surreal. He was an aviation enthusiast, particularly World War II-era military fighters and bombers.

Jack is mourned by his loving wife of 22 years, Lori V. Lytle,his sons, Jack “Jay” Y. Lytle, Jr. (Tori), and Howard Bryant Lytle (Erin). He is also survived by David Barnett and SFC Joshua Angle (Paul), who remember Jack not only as a stepfather but also as a mentor and role model. His memory will be treasured by his grand-daughter, Eli Morgan Lytle, and grandsons, Silas and Luke Lytle, and Van Barnett. Jack was preceded in death by his brothers James, William “Bill,” and Howard Wayne Lytle, and his cherished Yorkie, Belle.

Final arrangements for Jack are entrusted to the Smith Family Funeral Home in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Memorial services will be held at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock,
Arkansas, on Wednesday, May 29, at noon.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests that donations be made in Jack’s memory to Disabled Veterans of American, American Red Cross, or the Pulaski County Humane Society.

Jack’s life was a portrait of integrity and love, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jack was a good friend and a great person who had a wonderful sense of humor. Jack you will be missed by everyone who new you. RIP my friend.
