Joe's daughter Katie's announcement post:
"Even though my mind still doesn’t truly believe it, my wonderful, kind, loving Daddy, Joe Thomason, died in his sleep early Saturday morning. He had undergone open heart surgery January 5 and things just went downhill from there. His huge heart that loved so many friends and family members so deeply just couldn’t go on anymore. I’ve lost my best friend, my sense of security in this world, and a love that was so steadfast and pure and selfless that I still can’t even believe I was lucky enough to have him. I know I will be flooded with love and condolences during this horrible time and I appreciate that so much. But also my condolences to everyone who was lucky enough to know him, love him, and call him friend. I know I’m not the only person left with an immeasurable sized hole in their heart over the loss of him. Thank you so much to everyone that enriched his life, made him happy, made him laugh, shared good times, and supported him through the bad.  I will always consider myself one of the most fortunate people to ever live on this earth because I had him as my father. As to be expected, I am truly and utterly devastated but also so, so grateful to have known him and had him in my life for 40 years. In his honor, please tell your loved ones how much you care a little extra from now on. Dad told me everyday of his life- on the phone, via text, in person, in a note, with a card, etc. how much he loved me and was so happy I was his daughter. It’s the greatest gift i’ll ever receive and I know it
will carry me through the rest of my life."
