Although I also had a civilian career with Xerox for about 30 years, most of my later years have been entirely with the military. I retired as a Navy Captain in 2008 after 27 years of service. Since that time, I've been serving with NY State's Division of Military and Naval Affairs. I was promoted to Rear Admiral in April, 2022, and I'm currently the Commander of the 2,800 member force. It's been an honor and a privilege serving with so many fine members of the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.

Living up here in Rochester, NY, since 1986. It's always cold...we get eight months of winter each year and four months of lousy skiing. It's been a good life up here, including a 30 year career inside Xerox, and a military (Navy) career that has somehow lasted for 42 years, although I have to retire from that this year due to "aging out." I find that I'm somehow busier in retirement than while I was working, which seems impossible. I have four new books hitting the bookstores this year, which should be fun. Patty & I still enjoy traveling around the world and seeing new sights. We'll be spending 15 days in Iceland later this summer, which should be nice. We're looking forward to seeing everyone again at the reunion!

While I never knew Valerie closely in high school, I still remember something that happened way back in 4th grade, when her desk was next to mine in Squiretown School. We were in art class, and were all drawing "still art" pictures in colored (pastel?) chalk or art crayons. I was making a mess out of mine, but I happened to glance over at Valerie's paper. She had drawn a bowl of fruit on a table, and it was stunning. Even in 4th grade, she was incredibly talented, able to draw objects with amazing vision and interpretation, right down to the shading and perspective you'd expect from a college art student. I remember her as a gentle soul who seemed to find the good side of everyone and everything. She certainly will be missed.

I can't believe I'm still doing this....42nd year in uniform. But finally being pushed into retirement in November. Guess I'll have to find something else to keep me out of trouble.
