Loren was born in Ogden, Utah, a son of Leon and Alta Buttars. He graduated from Logan High School in 1968. He served an LDS mission from 1969-1971. He married Catherine Allen on April 22, 1972. They lived in Logan where he died on August 6, 1997. He was buried in the Logan Cemetery.
