Pam joined our 6th grade class at Hapgood School a few weeks into the school year. Her father, Clare Musgjerd, had just been transferred to Vandenberg Air Force Base from England. We ended up sitting close to each other in class and became good friends. Her mom, Kay, was like a second mom to me. Kay taught me a lot about cooking, helped Pam & I give dinner parties at their house before big school events, invited many of our classmates over for events. I have a photo of members of the high school women's tennis team (Linda Rowe, Lynn & Carmela Vaughan, Gail Schmidt) pulling taffy in their kitchen.

Pam went to Cal Poly SLO then moved to Carmel Valley with her mom after her parents divorced. I visited them many times in Carmel and was in Pam's wedding.

I think she died in 1986. I talked to her for over an hour a couple of days before she died.

May Pam's kind & gentle spirit be touched by the Hand of God, and may she rest in peace.

We were all unaware of the eating disorder that Pam seemed to have.  We watched her in high school become thinner and thinner--then too thin.  I did not know that she married.  Demons in our head do not just "go away".  I always admired her greatly and was not surprised that she was our Valedictorian.  When I see her picture in the yearbook with Mike Todd, I am so saddened that he too, took his own life.  Again, what did we know in those early days?

My memory of Pam is one of joy that she was one of several top students in our class.  She had the high honor of being our valedictorian.  It seemed so effortless for her, whereas I had to work hard for the grades I got.  May the good memories of Pam help in the continued healing of her friends and family.
