"Studebaker", "Studman", "Stooby Dooby", "Stugotz" Hey, guess I took the ultimate Jungle Cruise. Sorry I had to shove off, but my boat was leaving the dock. I am with you all in spirit. I need to tell my wife, Vicky, and my kids Matt, Dayna, Sam, Ben, and Nate that I will always be watching over you.

Most of you know that I moved to Long Beach with my Mom and Dad (Norman and Marjorie) and my two brothers, Larry and Jeffrey, when I was a few years old and we never left.

I went to Emerson, Stanford, and Millikan, where my mother, Marjorie, taught Spanish. Right after Millikan I did my patriotic duty and joined the Marine Reserves. They liked my printing so much that they made me a company clerk. With my G.I. Bill I went to Long Beach City College.

I moved to Belmont Shore where I met some of my lifelong friends. I got my dream job at Disneyland (I got to talk a lot) working on the Jungle Cruise. I enjoyed that job so much I got fired for just being myself. I was lucky to land a job as a DJ (are you sensing a theme here?) for KISS FM with a fantastic air time of 2 am. You probably didn't get to hear me do my schtick.

The radio gig didn't pay the bills so I decided that being a limo driver would put me in touch with the "beautiful people". Trouble with that was, I kept falling asleep.

I loved my job as a conductor for Amtrak. I was able to travel (and it is okay to sleep on an Amtrak train).

I got a real job at American President Lines

where I worked for over 20 years. I have always enjoyed sports cars, running, and talking, talking, talking to anybody that would pretend to listen. I was very well known for being a "coupon king" and dabbling in politics, as well as for my frequent letters-to-the editor at Press Telegram.

My favorite Long Beach hangouts where I hope to see all my buddies November. 3, 1948—March 18, 2011

having one for me: Joe Jost's, Frisco's, or McKenna's.

I will just be up here giving puppy treats to Boomer and Pete.

P.S.--Emily, Abby, Erika, and Ryan Grandpa misses you and loves you.

There will be a "celebration of life" held in Stu Cahn's honor on Friday, March 25, at 1:00 at The Grand 4101 East Willow St.

Casual dress, Hawaiian shirts preferred. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The American Red Cross, Greater Long Beach Chapter.

I was chatting with Stu on Facebook only a couple of hours before he passed, and I was completely shocked to hear the news!  We had just reconnected on Facebook and I was excited to be in touch with him again.  What a nice guy!  He seemed to remember everything!!  He not only remembered me, but remembered the street I lived on...even almost got the house number right... and many other things that I never would've thought he knew about me.  I was so sorry that he passed away so quickly after I was just getting a chance to reacquaint with him.  He is very much missed.

Stu was bigger than life and the life of the party. He is missed very much by so very many.

Stu was a remarkable guy.  Always upbeat and cheerful.  I saw him only once after high school at the funeral of good friend Roger Stampe.  He along with a few others vowed to stay in touch.  Unfortunately it never happened.  Stu is missed and we are all greater for having known him and also lessened for having lost him.

From an email received from Trudy Middler and was asked to include it as a Memorial to Stu.

I lost the most precious wonderful friend in 2011 and that was Stu Cahn. Stu was so amazingly wonderful to me and was always there for me. We had a great frienship that started in 10th grade and continued until he suddenly and shockingly passed away. He was a genius with his quick mind and incredible memory for EVERYTHING. Always a phone call every birthday of mine. He cared so much for so many people and he made you feel like you were the most important person in the world. Yes, Rita Ashcraft, Stu was totally responsible for me becoming Homecoming Queen. He was relentless in his pursuit to get me there and he did it and I was forever changed in that moment. I loved this man so much and he was truly my best male friend and Harriet Radar was my best girl friend. Vicki, Stu's wife was the love of his life and I know his children meant everything to him. I know they miss him everyday and so do I. Why did you leave so soon, sweet man. You were bigger than life and no one expected you to leave all of us that adored you and helped us get thru this tragic life. You made it worth living. I will always love you, Mr. Cahn. You made me laugh so much. Thank you for EVERYTHING you did to make me who I am today. Much love forever.
