Dear Class of 1972 Alums,

We are thrilled that you’ve chosen to attend the Saturday Evening Reunion event at the Rec Park 18 Clubhouse on September 17^th.  As we are just two weeks away from gathering, we hope that this email will provide you with any additional details that are needed.  We are expecting 200 attendees – the list of your fellow classmate registrants is on the ClassCreator website. If you also intend to join in on the Friday no-host mixer and Sunday picnic/tour events (registration appreciated but not required), those details are provided at the end of this note.

We will follow all Long Beach public health guidelines that are in place as of the Reunion weekend.  As of this time, we will NOT be checking COVID vaccination status or requiring masking.  However, if wearing a mask makes you more comfortable, please feel free to do so!  Of course, if you are testing positive or exhibiting symptoms, please refrain from participation for the safety of others. 

We have chosen this venue because of the plentiful outdoor spaces for eating and visiting, and the French doors that can remain open for the main hall.  Food stations service will take place indoors but can be consumed outdoors.  The food selection is intentionally casual, with maximum flexibility for all dietary needs.

Enter off of Park Avenue and 10^th Street to 5001 Deukmejian Dr, Long Beach, CA 90804.  Parking is free and, as the golfers at the course depart, close-up spaces will become more accessible.

Dress code recommendation is Nice Casual – whatever makes you comfortable for mingling and photos.  Flooring surfaces are carpeted, hardscape and grass (in the Gazebo Garden), so comfortable shoes are recommended.  All areas are ADA accessible.

While dancing is not part of the Main Hall program, you are welcome to kick up your heels in the Gazebo area on the grass!  We have planned for background music from ‘our era’. 

Coffee, tea, lemonade and water are included in your registration.  We will have two bars for alcoholic or soft drink beverage purchase (cash, credit/debit cards accepted).  Prices (incl. tax)  for soft drinks $4, domestic beer and house wine are $7, well drinks $8, call and premium brands are a bit higher.

The Saturday Evening schedule:

5:00 pm  Check-in -  received program and nametags, get photo taken

                 Appetizers will be available:  Fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese/cracker boards.

5:45 pm -  Brief Announcements from the Reunion Committee in Main Hall

6:00 – 8:00 pm -   Dinner food stations open.   Salad Bar with separate fixings; Taco bar with carne asada, chicken and black beans + fixings; Sliders - beef/veggie and cheese.

7:00 pm – A Special Performance in the Gazebo Garden

7:30 pm – Dessert station open - an assortment of tasty hand held selections.

10:00 pm – Event conclusion

Friday Morning Golf Event:   Registered participants will receive their assigned tee time, rules and other details directly via email.

Friday night No-Host mixer:  6 pm start – no official end time.  Glory Days Beachside Grill, just over the county border into Seal Beach at 620 Pacific Coast Hwy.  Casual, comfortable dress.  Food and beverage (pub-style options) available for purchase.  https://glorydaysca.com/seal-beach    Over 100 people have indicated they plan to attend this event.

Sunday Picnic/Tour:  11 am – 2 pm  Gather at the Arches entry at Park Avenue and 10^th Street.  Free street parking is all around that corner.  Bring your own chairs and food if you intend to picnic on the campus.  We have 70 + registrants to date.

We are fortunate to have Gonzalo Moraga, currently Principal at LB McBride High School and a former Wilson High Principal, conducting a thorough tour of the campus (could last over 1.5 hours).  It’s been a real highlight for our reunions.  The tour will commence promptly at 11:00 am, so please arrive early if you plan to participate.   Wear comfortable clothing and, of course, tour just as long as you wish!

The Wilson High PTSA will be opening the Bear Store for us from 12 - 2 pm in the center of the Quad to accommodate any shopping you wish to do.  Checks and credit cards are accepted – no cash.
