I knew Don since 5th grade, the year my family moved to Florida from New York. I lost track of him a year or two before he died, and I forget what took him. Don was a car enthusiast and enjoyed working on his classic Corvette. He lived on a farm on Howell Branch Road, long before the pastoral settings of that region gave way to the rampant development that has transformed the rural areas of Central Florida.
Wow, talk about bringing back memories. I had a 4 cylinder 4 barrel 4 speed Pontiac Tempest and I would trash the clutch about every weekend. Don would fix it for around $10 and that included the parts. He worked on it at his house over on Howell Branch Road and like Paul said, it was a lot more rural then. He was such a quiet nice guy and really helped me out even as he shook his head at my stupidity.
