Mildred T. Galloway (1952)

Mildred was born "Mildred Taylor" in Tiptonville, Tennessee on  September 4, 1934.  She moved to Memphis following the death of both parents where she enrolled at Booker T. Washington High School.

Mildred was a very kind, loving and inspiring God-fearing woman.  She was photographed in her high school yearbook in a nursing class.  She went on to become a nurse as was her goal and lifelong dream.  She was a proud Washingtonian and passed her love for BTW on to her descendants.

Mildred never got a chance to attend a 4 year college.  Her dream was to attend Tennessee State.  She did however manage to obtain an Associate Degree and march with the graduating class at Wayne County Community College in Detroit, Michigan on June 5, 2010 at the tender age of 75.  She was truly an inspiration!

Mildred firmly believed in education and hard work.  She loved people and working with them and never met a stranger.

While in Memphis she was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church on South Parkway.  In Detroit, she was an active member of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the Literacy Ministry.  She faithfully attended Sunday School and Bible Study and enjoyed visiting the sick and shut-in.  As a member of the Literacy Ministry she would go weekly to a nursing home and engage seniors, and those who were not necessarily seniors but nursing home residents, in fun, engaging and literacy based activities.

Mildred made her transition and went to be with the Lord on September 16, 2010.  She is greatly missed but is still inspiring those whom she loved and who love her.  Thank you "Queen"!
