In Memory

Charles Ballard

Charles Ballard, MD
1/8/2018
This memorial was created in gratitude to Dr Ballard.  Just prior to and when I was a resident, our department at
LAC-USC trained an unprecedented number of residents who later became department chairmen around the USA.  Dr. Ballard was instumental in training generations of OB GYN's so that his reach goes way beyond us as those department chairmen, faculty, volunteers and practicing doctors who have gone on to train many more residents. I attribute my confidence in approaching and solving difficult surgical problems without being intimidated to Dr. Ballard.
Thank you, Katherine Forte, MD 1981

As a faculty member in the USC OBGYN department from its full-time conception in 1970 until now, I have always looked upon Chuck as a quintessential surgical beacon of light for over five decades of residents who received their training in our department. While I was a resident at Johns Hopkins, I can still remember doing vaginal hysterectomies with Richard TeLinde much like the USC FROGS remember doing their first vaginal hysterectomy, and a whole lot more gynecologic surgeries, with Charles Ballard. Although he never wrote a book and rarely gave a lecture, his surgical expertise and guidance will live long beyond many a book and all lectures. In essence, if Chuck wasn't operating, he really wasn't happy!

If, for whatever societal reasons USC doesn't want to support a gynecologic surgical lectureship in Chuck's name, I would urge the FROGS, and all other "Chucksters," to do so.

Fight On ...
