
Helen Rae Bocook Chadwell, age 74, of U.S. 60 East, Morehead, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2020, at her home.
Born June 16, 1945, in Haldeman, she was the daughter of the late George Harlan Bocook and Mabel Irene Franklin Bocook. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her only sibling, Mary H. Bocook Stewart.
Helen is survived by her husband of 54 years, Michael Ray “Mike” Chadwell, and one son, Michael David Chadwell of Louisville. Other survivors include two nieces and one nephew, Cindy, John, and Anna Laura; one great nephew and two great nieces, Duncan, Catherine, and Isabelle; and brother-in-law, Sid Stewart.
Helen earned a bachelor’s degree from Morehead State University. A 45-year employee of St. Claire Medical Center, she retired as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the Chemistry Lab. She was a devoted wife and mother and was heavily involved in David’s childhood activities, including serving as a Cub Scout Leader. She also enjoyed traveling, horseback riding, riding trails with Mike, and gardening. An avid reader, she thoroughly enjoyed various reading groups and book clubs. Helen was also an artist and long-time member of the Morehead Art Guild. A member of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, she served on the Advisory Board and was Co-chair of the Promotion and Membership Committee. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
