Richard and I were long term friends starting in grade school and I always considered him a friend even though after he moved to Atlanta many years ago communications were sparse at best. We did reconnect and spoke by phone over the last five years. Even today I consider him a dear friend whose life was wrought with disapointments and separation from friends and family. May you rest in peace, God knows you deserve it.
I was sad to hear of Richard’s passing. He was a 3rd grade heart throb. I still remember his candy he gave to me on Valentine’s Day. He moved before I did to St Matthews where we reconnected injunior highland high school. No heart throb going on this time. Lost touch again u til we saw each other through my husband ‘s edical school. Sad to see that he is gone.
I have many fond memories of "Zippy" from Waggener and Vanderbilt, especially all the fun it was with him on the Chit-Chat staff. Such a loveable, humerous and friendly guy. The most vivid recollection I have is of his potrayal of "Chester" in a western skit we put on for the Senior Vaudville. He absolutely "stole the show!" He was an outstanding character of our class-once met, never forgotten.
