Douglas Orr "Doug" James December 18, 1944 - September 14, 2017

Douglas O. “Doug” James, 73, passed away Thursday September 14, 2017 with his family by his side. Born in Midland, Texas on December 18, 1944 to Julian and Madelyn James. Doug graduated from Waggner High School in 1963. After graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp at Camp Lejeune. Upon returning to Louisville he graduated from the University of Louisville. His career path was in Wholesale Sales. Fondest memories and achievements were made with Gil Mueller Sales & Service, and The DeVilbiss Co. As a young man, he was an avid golfer at the River Road Country Club winning many awards. His love of the game continued along with being hard to beat at the pool table, and cheering on his beloved UofL Cards. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Jeanette Athey, brother-in-law’s Bob Athey and Stan Moore. Left to cherish his memories are the loves of his life his wife of 52 years Nita Mathews James, his daughter Lisa Cottrell (Jon), his son Greg James (Carrie), grandchildren, Grayson and Erin James, Zachary Cottrell and Shayne Griley. His sister Cindy Moore, sister-in-law Marilyn Cox (Barry), brother-in-law Chuck Mathews (Mickie) and several nieces and nephews, his best friends Carol and Larry Harrison, his monthly dinner buddies Terry Fereday, Cliff Francis, and Greg Williams. A Private service was held. Visitation 2-5 pm Sunday at Pearson’s, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, Samaritan’s Purse, or the charity of choice.
