In Memory

Barry Fischler

Barry passed away on March 22, 2019. He had been struggling with kidney disease and dialysis. I could not find an obituary, so this is all I know.

I was very saddend to hear of Barry's passing. He was always a leader and a real live wire in LHS; and played a great Bball game on the court. Jill & my condolences go out to Linda and his family.

I can't think of anyone more fun than Barry Fischler.  He always had a twinkle in his eye and a big smile on his face.  He was a terrific dancer -- a very optimistic person.  I've missed seeing him at past reunions, and I'm sorry to learn that he struggled with kidney disease.  What a great group of guys we had at Marion Street -- Barry, Steve Lander, David Hescheles, Johnny Kaufman, Cliff Cooper.  I even remember Stuie Sherman and Stephen Weinstein.  What an innocent time of life it was!

I was saddened to hear of his passing. "Boo" always brightened up a room. I have lots of memories of him from those good old days. He was Mr. Personality, a special person.

Barry or better known as Boo to "THE GUYS" was undoubtedly the leader of our group. He was charismatic, had the gift of gab and left a mark on my memory of growing up. If you wanted to know what was happening Boo was the guy to call.

Great basketball guard and 3rd baseman for LHS class of 60.

How many times we" doubled" with my wife Nancy Smithers, Barry and Sandy McCoy.

Sad,Sad, Sad.Hard to believe.

Great memories of Barry.   He was the funniest guy I ever knew.  Very sharp and quick witted.  Barry was a great athlete. Captained the Owls basketball team, after we taught him all he knew playing hoops at Puddle Park.  We had some great 3 on 3 games but we couldn’t stop his drive or outside jump shot.  He played shortstop for the base bay team and led the conference in being hit by opposing pitchers.  We spent 2 years in college together and belonged to the same fraternity.   We had a great softball team, him at short, me at third and went to the championship games both years. All the other teams, except ours, had windmill pitchers, but with Barry’s leadership we managed to come out on top.   We both met our future wives at college and I  remember double dating to see Breakfast at Tiffany’s.   Our paths crossed in Italy as they were checking out of the same hotel the moment we checked in!    When his first child was born they borrowed our cradle .    We played golf together some years ago and he was really good  Who could ever forget the card games at his house on Judith Court where his dad sat in to play with us teenagers.  Boo was a natural leader and one of the great guys in the Class of 60, even though we lost class nite.  Still haven’t gotten over that .  Some great memories and times. Barbara and I send our sincere condolences to Linda, their son and twin daughters and family.

I am truly saddened to read that Barry has left us after suffering with Kidney [horrible] disease.

Barry was a leader of our class and always had a smile on his face.  He was one of the top athletes in our class and although I watched from the sidelines, I was still mesmerized by his often sterling play.  I too went off to URI with Barry and saw how he met his soon to be wife Linda.  Barry and I went our separate ways after college and although I went to a number of our reunions, was sorry that our paths did not cross.

He will be missed by his family and friends and to Linda - may Barry always be that 'shining star' you see when you look up each night.
