In Memory

Ellen Kaufman (Andacht)

Steve Lander wrote that Ellen passed away on April 12, 2016 in East Rockaway. Ellen was a beloved elementary school teacher and taught for over 30 years at Marion Street School in the Lynbrook School District. I always thought of her as a sweet and gentle person who enjoyed life. She always had a smile.

She is survived by her mother and three brothers, Michael, John and Howard.

Ellen is remembered by me as small of stature but big of heart.

Even while treading lightly she left a lasting impression. I'm grateful for that portable remembrance,

and it is one I won't soon forget.

Ellen and I had been friends since second grade. While we lost contact after college we ran into each other at TJMaxx, one of Ellen' favorite haunts.  At her funeral her brother Johnny was funny when he said that TJ's and Marshalls should be flying flags at half mast in her honor.  How true as she gave them a lot of business....I considered her a fashionista...she was.  We took many wonderful trips together...Hawaii, The Canadian Rockies etc.  The past 5 years we spoke to each other every day at 8.  Now when that time approaches I think of her but with so many fond memories.
