Barbara “Bobbie” Joan Zimmerman, 72, of Loveland, died of Lewy Body Dementia on December 29, 2014 at Medical Center of the Rockies.

She is survived by her husband, Herb, two loving daughters, Cindy and husband, Gary Linton, of Olathe, Kansas, and Kristen and husband Chris Truelson, of Highlands Ranch; also, sister Joan Krawchuk of Lynbrook, NY.

Bobbie was born June 5, 1942, in Astoria, New York, to Olga and Michael Krawchuk. She was raised on Long Island where she graduated from Lynbrook High School in 1960. She graduated from the College of New Rochelle in New York with a BA in English in 1964.

On a blind date in college, she met and eventually married Henry (Herb) Zimmerman in a military wedding in Lynbrook on June 6, 1964.

While living in Germany where Herb was stationed, she taught in a U.S. Military School in Hanau. Upon return to the states, she taught at Larimer County Voc-Tech Center and Thompson Valley High School in its opening year. She received masters’ degrees in Reading and in Library-Media from the University of Northern Colorado.

Bobbie was a staff member of Bill Reed Junior High / Middle School, teaching English and Reading for 8 years and working as Library-Media Specialist for 20 years. During this time, she was recognized as State of Colorado Power Librarian for three consecutive years.

Bobbie was known as “Lovey” by her seven grandchildren: Lauren and husband Justin, Joshua, Jessica, Hannah, Mallory, Henry, and Jack Ryan.

She loved to travel extensively with Herb, to laugh at his stories, and to spend time with her daughters and grandchildren, all of whom made her proud. One of her favorite trips was a crossing of the Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Mary II. In addition to travel, Bobbie loved teaching, reading, the fine arts, tennis, and New York City. Barbara and I met as students at Atlantic Ave. Elementary School. In fact, I have no memories of my school years in which she does not appear.  I have many memories of her from our earliest days right through graduation from LHS.  One of my favorites is going to Coney Island with her Dad to celebrate Barbara's birthday.  We must have been around 14 at the time.  It was a very exciting and fun day!

I also have fond memories of Barbara's mom - a lovely gentle lady who always had time for a house full of girls and her sister Gloria who was just enough older than we were to make a great role model.

We will all miss Barbara as we remember what an important place she held in our young lives.

I remember Barbara Krawchuck Zimmerman as a pillar of strength and a Class of 1960 Leader.  She never had anything but praise regardless of the occassion.  It is sad to see Barbara's name on our Memorium Page and I extend my condolences to her family and know that she battled to the end as that was her nature.

I remeber Barbara as a stable, accepting, engaging leader of the class of 60.Very likeable with a lot of Emotional Intelligence. When Barbara spoke she commanded respect and I remeber listening to what she said. We were not close but the announcement of her passing was powerfully sad for me. It must be a profound loss for those close to her in her life.

I fondly remember Barbara as an intelligent, kind, caring person who was generous to all in heart and spirit, and  who was a wonderful leader of the Class of 1960 (rah!!) who always carried herself with grace and dignity. As a former cheerleader, she would be happy to have us join in this cheer for her: "Jolly Mister Owl is a wise old scholar, so ALL for Barbara stand up and holler!"

She will not be forgotten by me and all others who were privileged to know her as a classmate and friend.

May God bless her and keep her close.
