I can't believe it's been 20 years since a small band of wild LC youth (names are being withheld to protect the innocent) traveled to see the Bullet Boys open for Cinderella at Key Arena 2 days after graduation. Since that night, all other events in my life pale in comparison but for posterities sake, I'll jot a few memories down anyway.
I spent 8 years in the Army which can best be described as "like being in college for 8 years (camping, backpacking trips to exotic places, toga parties, concerts), just without the whole studying thing:-)" But...I did learn the most valuable lesson in my life though which is that people are the same no matter where you go...they just want a job, family and a better life for their kids.
While saving the world from oppressive leaders, I met this hot german chick Christine in the summer of 1994...it took me 10 months to convince her that I was Mr Right but I finally did it in April of 1994 when we got married in Rødekro, Denmark where I think everyone should make a pilgrimage to at least once in their life. (don't forget to get the t-shirt while you're there:-)
In 1997, we decided it was time for Travis to find a job that didn't involve dodging bullets so we packed up our dorm room sized apartment in Germany and headed back to Washington. We bought a condo that seems HUGE compared to our dorm room in Frankfurt. I worked for major aircraft interior manufacturer for a couple of years before joining Soundair in 2000. Christine also found a great job as well as a Co-Teacher at Sammamish Montessori before a crazy night in June left us with a surprise we didn't plan for. In March of 2001, Johanna decided to join our party of 2. Realizing that I was going to need to provide a better life for Johanna than I had, I decided I REALLY needed get serious about living the American Dream.
In 2004, I finished my degree at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. We moved out of our condo and bought a house in Kirkland (or K-town as me and my Homies like to call it) and worked my way up the corporate ladder at Soundair where I am currently the Senior Program Manager for the Design & Development Group. (while it may sound impressive, it really means I spend a LOT of time sending reports to the FAA and various Airlines and explaining via powerpoint to the CEO why it takes so long to bring the parts to market). Christine continues working for Sammamish Montessori where Johanna is currently attending 2nd grade.
As for fun...I race bikes locally, join Johanna at all the b-day parties and ice skating lessons and work on the never ending projects at our house in K-town. We like to travel which lately consists of Christine and Johanna joining me on work trips and going to Germany every other year. We also like to ski and have BBQ's with our Homies in the summer:-) We're looking forward to see everyone in July!
