The following Sept after high school, I attended Compton College. While there, I became the 1st student to ever do the PA Announcements for the college. I held that position until I graduated with an AA Degree in 1983. I transferred to Cal State University Sacramento to study radio and tv broadcasting. In 1989, I returned to Los Angeles to make an opportunity in broadcasting. I bought airtime from an AM radio station AM 870 KIEV and hosted a late night program called "The Late Nite Hype" although the show started to build a following, we had little to no advertisers and after 9 months I had to pull the show. I was hurt, but not finished. A friend of mine, who was a DJ on 92.3 The BEAT!, at the time told me to go to a small christian station and do some board work. I found a small christian station in Long Beach (AM 1390 KGER) who had "On Air" Internships available. Of course I jumped at the chance! I learned everythng so fast, they hired me just 3 months into the 6 month training period. I worked and filled in on every shift except morning drive. It's funny how the Lord works. I hadn't been going to church alot at that time, and I had sent audition tapes to just about every radio station in LA and was turned down (I still have the letters). And where did he put me, in a Christian Station, not only that, on the Sunday evening shift I started working on, all the programs were Church programs! So I was in church whether I wanted to be or not. That was just the beginning. Upon moving with the station to Glendale a few years later, I not only got to work on air on 99.5 FM KKLA, which at the time, was Salem Communications BIGGEST STATION!! I held down the Saturday and Sunday afternoon shift. I also got a chnace to do the Gospel Music show for the AM station and live gospel brunch broadcasts for the AM station (Klight). Getting KKLA on my resume opened up doors to other radio stations in LA and even a Network station where I was a Network Announcer in Markets all around the world. All this happened thru Prayer, Blood, Sweat, TEARS and without a degree. I was fortunate to never have to leave LA and I was still on radio all over the Country. I've done everything in radio from running the boards for the NFL, Dodgers games, and college football and basketball. I've met several celebrities through radio and have even worked along side of radio jocks I listened to as a kid!! I've been hosting my own shows for the past 15 years and have my own Internet radio station, which has a 5 star rating and is the only internet radio station that represents the entire State of Ca in GospelUSA Magazine. I have a local broadcast here in LA that I've done for the past 9 years on KTYM (off and on) and I've also been a "Gospel Announcer of the Year" nominee twice through the So Cal Gospel Announcer's Guild and have "Board Operator of the Month" Awards through Salem Communicatons. I've also been blessed to be in several movies, and I've hosted a cable tv gospel music show. During my "down" time in Sacramento, in addition to working a regular job, I used my singing to supplement income by doing weddings. In the mid 80's, and the jobs kept coming wedding after wedding. I even sang in my own wedding! Yes, I can truly say the Lord has truly blessed me through the years and I'm truly grateful to be able to share my blessings.
