Hey classmates. I was wondering how you guys feel about having a 20 years class reunion weekend.....

09/15/08 12:50 PM #20

Harold Burnett

I think it's a good idea. We could do something like a church service on Sabbath, maybe a vesper on Fri night, Sabbath luncheon. Those are just a few ideas. The vesper could be at someone's house, maybe LAAA could let us use their auditorium for the Sabbath service. If we did something on Saturday night, what would be good?

09/15/08 03:10 PM #21

Denise James (Templeton)

We definately need to have a reunion! Sabbath service with vespers and lunch sounds good. Maybe we can reserve a room at a local restaurant and get together Sat night. Would be nice to see everyone.

I don't know how everyone feels about going out to eat on Saturday night. I like dancing too, so I am open, after church we could all hang out a park or something, and then maybe go out to dinner or skating or dancing or set up a private dancing party for our class.
Sunday, have brunch.
Cruises to Mexico from L.A. are pretty cool too, but can cost about 1500.00 for two.

Ahhh! A few of us were thinking that a cruise would be great! So many different activities for people to do and it could be very family friendly. I believe they have accommodations for church services and so Friday night vespers and Saturday services shouldn't be too problemmatic to incorporate, especially since many cruisers who would be interested in church services would probably prefer to attend on a Sunday. Can we have a "cruise" survey or can the cruise be added to the current survey?

I don't know, what say you, class of 89 et al?

09/18/08 03:21 PM #24

Harold Burnett

As of today 9/18, NINE classmates have taken the reunion survey, so let's encourage the others to take the survey. If you have the phone numbers of classmates, please give them a call so we can get their input. Also, keep in mind that with cruises the summer months are PEAK season, so rates are highest then. KERRY HARRIGAN had suggested a reunion trip to St. Thomas some time ago, he has yet to take the survey and weigh in on the subject here.

Hey Harold, who says that the cruise or whatever must occur in the Summer? If it would be better financially to do a winter cruise, would that be feasible? I think a cruise just because there are so many things to do. We could do a mini-vacation someplace, or even go to a resort for the weekend, or, or, or... etc...etc....and so on and so forth.

There should be TONS of ideas from this group! RIGHT? I mean, as I recall, our class had some very creative minds that were so full of all sorts of interesting ideas.

Harold Burnett

Well, Nampombe, can you call a travel agt and see what the cheapest month is for 3 day cruises out of LA/LongBch to Baja, get a cost for an inside cabin. Post it here, that way we'd have an idea of cost as well as what month we'd be sailing. The reason I put ONLY summer months for the reunion is because typically school is not in session and that is when families are free. If another month would be more cost efficient then let's consider it. CHECK ON THAT CRUISE FOR US!

Karen Smith (Liburd)

Okay Class,
December is a good vacation month and maybe even March....
I would be inclined to travel during the spring, since December is Christmas time.
Thank you Nampombe and Harold for your input.

To comment about the U.S. Virgin Islands.... my husband grew up there. He says it is beautiful and hot.... he loves the cultural food. I believe a cruise there might be good or like Nampombe suggested, "maybe a resort"

Hey all, we need to get cracking if we are going to do do something elaborate so that people can plan and save. What about a dinner cruise? Includes cruise and not as expensive. I can check out info. I have done it before. Anyway, I finally found some old pics, check out my profile to see.

Can someone on here tell me what kinds of jobs you all have where you can go on 1500 dollar cruises? I'm just saying, cause I REALLY want to be down with THAT!
HA!
How about a cruise to Catalina Island?! HAHAHAHA Does that island even still exist?!

09/26/08 12:14 PM #31

Harold Burnett

as of 9/26, 12 folks have taken the REUNION SURVEY. I sent out a survey reminder to those registered who hadn't taken it on 9/25. It would probably be good for us to hear from at least 18 of the 21 folks who have registered on this site. To get their input. Of the responses so far, 9/12 thought it was a good idea to TRY and include BOTH the class of '88/'90. I talked to a member of '88, she said they didn't do anything last yr. for their 20th. SO, WHAT SUGGESTIONS DO YOU GUYS HAVE FOR GOING ABOUT REACHING OUT TO THE OTHER CLASSES?

09/30/08 01:07 AM #32

Karen Smith (Liburd)

Denise and I were talking and came up with some ideas. Friday night we can meet at someone's home and have a vespers and use that time to catch up. Saturday morning we can have church at LAAA or at a church in LA, then on Saturday night we can go on a dinner cruise (like Hornblower) for three hours. I have also sent an email to Harold....he is leaning more towards church at LAAA, Denise thought it would be easier and less expensive if we worshipped at a church.
What are your thoughts....

09/30/08 01:09 AM #33

Nampombe Taylor

Haaaaaaa! I say the more the merrier. Also, the more the better group rates!!! I think a cruise to Ensenada or somewhere runs in the "under $500" range.

Why am I laughing at you Lori! Dr. Nelson, c'mon now, you are BIG TIME, NOW!!!! Then again, there are those pesky critters called school loans (I withdraw the statement) *smile*

I will get some information and post it for everyone. As for you, Harold, how did you reach all of us? I would imagine that you could reach out to the other classes in a similar fashion, no?

Si se puede!!!!

Hi guys, I really like the idea of the Hornblower for Sat. night. You can kinda dress up, adults only, and I think it would definately fit into our quasi budget. From the survey most said they felt comfortable paying $150/pp. I volunteer my house for the Friday night vesper, it's centrally located. Marie, did you see in your CHURCH BULLETIN last wk a call for former students of Lynwood, La Union to meet about starting an Alumni? It was in my bulletin at my church. Let's keep an eye on that as we try and move forward with our own reunion.

As for trying to FIND class of 1988 or 1990, can WE collectively try and use MYSPACE, Hi5, Facebook, our own phone tree/email address books to look them up??? We can report back here as we find ppl. I think we can do this guys!

10/07/08 12:12 AM #36

Karen Smith (Liburd)

Sounds good Harold....what time next year were you thinking? I was thinking one of the long weekends or even a weekend that is not a holiday; so we will not hav to pay a higher rate on the dinner cruise.

Survey RESULTS. 15 of 21 classmates took the Reunion Survey. Here are the results.
1)Majority felt reunion fee should be $150
2)Majority felt reunion fees should be reduced $25-$50 for out of towners
3)Majority felt reunion should take place in August
4)Majority felt we should invite other classes to participate with us
5)Majority felt it should be BOTH class of 1988/1990

We can DISCUSS the results here in this forum. I've sent 3 emails to our fellow classmates reminding them to take the survey. Do we wait forever for them? I vote for us to make plans based with the input of the people we have participating on this forum and invite/inform the others.

10/07/08 08:02 PM #38

Denise James (Templeton)

Yes, I think we should go ahead with the majority vote and inform those who have not responded, so we can start to plan. We need to pick a date to shoot for. Who is up for spring/early summer before it gets too hot?

10/08/08 12:47 AM #39

Lori Nelson

Harold, you are doing so good with this! I'm proud of you! WOW! I say go for the majority too.

As far as the "Dr. Thing" Nampombe, girl, puhlease. I am BROKE OFF! And will be for quite a while. Let's just say Obama's tax cuts still apply to me! HA.

Anyway, I'm down for whatever you guys. Vespers at Harold's... Church anywhere...(would kind of like to have something at LAAA since that's the closest we can get to LAA and we probably should try to focus something on the old school and giving back.) Saturday night cruise sounds good. Anything for Sunday? BBQ/Pool party for families (Since there won't have really been anything for the kids that all of you guys have now)? My parents offered their house for that if you wanted to do it there. Whatever you guys think. June/July works best for me.

Obama '08!!!

Guys,
I surfed around that hornblower website, they don't have summer 2009 prices posted, however, it seems to average around $75/pp for Sat. night dinner/dance cruising. The other link I posted also sails out of Marina Del Rey.

Hornblower cruises

I think a pool party on Sunday for families would be GREAT at Lori's parents. They have a big backyard and we wouldn't feel crowded. We should definately give some monetary gift to LAA.

Dear Harold (Class of 89)

I like the ideas so far. Just let me know in advance so I can plan to pay for my hotel and money to get there.

Karen

Looking forward to seeing you again....
How do you guys feel about memorial day so that families can take Thursday and Friday off (if necessary) but not have to worry about Monday?
