Date for the Reunion Posted Friday, August 28, 2009 03:42 PM Here is a place for people to provide input for the date. We have several ideas: July 4th weekend, the fall, the spring, and a late June weekend before the 4th.
I like the late June date as long as we make it a 3 day event.

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Saturday, August 29, 2009 03:20 PM IMHO, I think the early Fall might be good, or early June.........temps just starting to rise, or are going down, etc....4th of July tends to be Family stuff....traditional family gatherings...etc........might miss some people because of that.....is Coney Island still open??.....We had our Senior Prom there didn't we??.....Starlight Gardens for the dance?.......just curious....can't remember ( for a number of reasons!)........Hope you guys are all doing well......Jimmy

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Sunday, August 30, 2009 12:20 PM Hi All, Yes, Coney is still open and that sounds like a fun, doable site. You have the dance pavilion and picnic sites, along with other amusement for children, grandchildren such as rides and the pool. We also have the riverboats that provide dinner and a nice leisurely trip, two hours or so trip down the river. Just a couple of places to fill a possible 3-day weekend. June or August sounds good. Actually, late August might be better as it is after most family vacations and family get togethers. Personally, I would like to stay away from country clubs, etc. Not everyone plays golf, tennis, whatever, and as we all come from different walks of life, that setting can be intimidating to those who are not that well off. I think it would be more fun to just visit and talk. Reading some of the profiles and stories of fellow classmates is really fun and I look forward to seeing everyone. Cher (Cheryl Godwin Treinen) |

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Monday, August 31, 2009 04:07 PM I think Moonlight Gardens would be fun. I actually remember the night after prom was there....... For everyone's information, Belwood is a very quaint, small club.....not very prestigious at all but a comfortable atmosphere. I just wanted to invite those who might want to play golf.......no big deal at all! |

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Monday, August 31, 2009 08:32 PM I like the first to middle June vs. August. Or Sept. But since some of our classmates are teachers, I guess Sept. won't work. Coney Island sounds like fun too. Maybe one day at Coney for a picnic & boat ride and the next day at Barb's place. I don't play golf but those that want to can and the rest of us can relax! We are busy the first part of Oct. so please don't have the reunion then. I agree with Jim about July 4th being busy with family, we have twin grandchildren just born on July 4, 2009. Jane

Kinda like the idea of Coney one day, Belwood the next ( Nice, Jane)......I really think that Belwood would be a good option..........there is no reason to be intimdated, we're all friends, and as Barb said, it's a nice, intimate place to gather,.......... casual dress,.....there are lots of options for those who don't play golf...picnic....swimming.....tennis.....Barb said there would be a free open bar ( not really, but I bet I got her attention).......comfortable surroundings.......play cards, socialize, have a few libations inside where there is A/C if it's hot.....just kick back and enjoy.....I'm sure Barb and Billy have great HI Def TV's for those who might want to watch something (PGA TOUR golf, baseball game)......nice landscaped surroundings.....
Jane.....two born on the 4th of July??.....too cool......Jim |

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Tuesday, September 1, 2009 01:05 PM Could Belwood accomodate 50-100 people all day, only a few of which would be golfing? Would there be fees other than for golf? Of course the entire class does not all have to go to the same place on one afternoon. We could select various activities to attend. Heflin's basement listening to some Stones and Led Zepplin might be for me (:-)
We have a survey/poll committee (Jane Horning and Judy Lewis) and a venue committee (Cathie F and Sue W) perhaps we should have an activities committee - any volunteers? Join the concall on the 13th. Use the website and start some topics or just use the existing topic, whatever.
Here's what I was thinking>>
I like June 18-22, or June 25-27 next year 2010. People still in education could come - school should be out most places and people with July 4 events could come as well.
But to get lots of people to come from far away, we need, first to get as many people as we can to come - maybe 60-70 out of the 104 in the class could be a reasonable goal. And, second we need to have the events organized and sound pretty exciting or interesting.
So.
If we have 3 days - remote people flying in Thursday night-Friday morning, and flying out Sunday (or Monday for those not working perhaps) -- we could organize around 5 events and/or venues Friday daytime Friday eveting Saturday daytime: Saturday envening: Sunday brunch
Possible activities: Coney picnic Coney dance River cruise Golf / tennis Reasonably priced, nice restaurant or catered dinner at a nice place for the entire evening - maybe with a couple of skits. Tour of school: looking at a memorabilia collection - pieces we all bring to the reunion; variety show, music and skits, old football films or other media stuff Hanging out all day at someone's big house or a rented frat house or an indoor place like the VA or the Elks club or the American legion or a club or a hotel or a picnic place if the weather is nice. In our town we have a big old farmhouse people rent for wedding receptions etc...
Let's get some more ideas.

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Tuesday, September 1, 2009 03:33 PM You all can go to our website, www.belwoodcc.com and check out the facilities. Of course, we do have to look at specific dates, etc. to accommodate our members and any club functions that are previously planned. |

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Tuesday, September 1, 2009 04:26 PM Hey Larry, I think you have some great ideas for a three day weekend. Other possibilities are a comedy club at "Newport on the Levy" which most of our classmates that live out ot town have not seen. There is also an aquarium at the site. The riverboats are just down the hill from the Levy. We also now have the Purple People Bridge, a walking bridge between Cincinnati and Kentucky where you can park on one side and walk to the other side. This is also at the Levy. We have a place in Delhi (west side of Cincinnati where I live) that is similar to your farm - it was originally an old farm house, and is called "The Farm" that is rented for Wedding receptions, special dances and parties, etc., but I don't think those who grew up on the East side want to venture to the West side! Although, "The Farm" is on Anderson Ferry Road, and at the bottom of the road, is the Anderson Ferry that ferries cars over to Kentucky and just a hop, skip and a jump to Greater Cincinnati International Airport. I really like Coney for one day (maybe Saturday), and the Riverboat for a dinner cruise on another (possibly Friday late afternoon or early evening) for at least two of the days. We can schedule other events around these. Just suggestions. Cher |

I like the earlier dates of June 18, 19, 20,21. Also, I checked out Belwood Country Club and it is beautiful, looks like a nice place to spend some time relaxing and getting reacquainted with our old frieds while the golfers do there thing. Jimmy can bring the wine (I checked out your web sites, very impressive) so Barb won't have to foot the bar bill. Or I could bring my jug wine!! No matter what, I am a happy camper! RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Thursday, September 3, 2009 12:56 AM
Jane.....I'd be honored to contribute the wines to the activities.....of course now that I've seen Barb's (Quaint C.C.) looks like I can jack the price of the wines up another 40%.....(wish I had MY own course).... I'm joking.....I'll supply the wine gratis....PGA Tour Wines, and Duffy Waldorf's wines......it would be my pleasure....and Belwood does look like a great place to spend a day, looks very laid back....like Larry said....nothing is mandatory anyway... Barb's Club looks really awesome....beautifully maintained, great architecture.....looks like a great layout as well ( starts with a par 5....(classic Nicklaus design!)....I.Like Larry's line up as well, and Cher's idea on Coney for a day/night/ riverboat sounds good.....and earlier June works good for me.....any really good Italian restaurants in the "hood"??..... Cher brought up Newport.....wow, what a change.....back in the day that's where we used to go looking for trouble, and to pick up some booze....now its beautiful ( been back a few times to visit my sis, and caught a Reds game, or a Bungles, yes, Bungles game)....(my son Vinnie and Carson worked out together in the summers in H/S here in the O.C......Vinnie was a Soccer player).... .... I've stayed in the Marriot over there across the River in KY from the Great American Ball park....awesome new stadium.....hey....maybe a Reds game??.....just another thought....... Just kickin' some things around.....it'll all be good, no matter what......Jimmy.

Jane & Jimmy.....Thanks for the nice compliments re Belwood. The course is an old, tight track with small greens, lots of water and can be pretty challenging especially when you're used to the newer wide open courses. Larry, I wouldn't charge the room rental fees that are posted on the website if we decide to use the clubhouse for anything. We can run a cash bar and of course, have plenty of PGA Tour wines. I really wasn't thinking that we would want to use the club for dinner unless it was a cookout at the pool or something just to keep it fun and casual. As you said, some people could go other directions, etc. and then we could meet up in the evening at Belwood or the river......or Coney. I will check available dates and get back. Barb

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Thursday, September 3, 2009 04:36 PM Hi Jimmy,
We have recently dined at Maggiano's, an Italian restaurant in Kenwood Towne Center (Madeira/Kenwood) that is very good and family oriented. Prices are very reasonable and plenty of seating for large groups. I think you would like it.

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Friday, September 4, 2009 11:05 AM Friday eves Moonlite Gardens @ Old Coney opens @7pm, bands, etc. I don't think there are ongoing events on Sat. eves. Not sure Moonlite is open in June -- maybe just July - August. I will find out. Fri. eve ... We could meet for bowling in Blue Ash, get pizzas. Many will just be arriving .. For Sat., in my op., we are getting together to visit. We could use a very nice outdoor shelter at Sharon Woods or Blue Ash Rec center and have a pig roast. We local folks could bring corn hole games, etc. On Sun., we could have brunch at Crown Point Hotel, I-71 & Pfeiffer Rd., before everyone heads home. They wouldset up just for our group if folks stay there (~$99./night).

Hey Cher........Someone told me about that place one time when I was back there.....said it was very good!..........There is also an Italian place right in downtown Madeira......seems like it was kinda around where the old movie Theater and barber shop used to be??......across from the Train Station on the opposite side of Miami Ave??.....It was also pretty good, very reasonable, and family style as well......can't remember the name......Of course some people might not like Italian (What??....you gottabekiddenme!)......so it's just another suggestion.....but thanks for the heads up on Maggiano's...I'll try it next time I'm back in the "Natti"..........hope all is well with you and yours........jimmy

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Friday, September 4, 2009 01:27 PM Hi Kathy, A pig roast sounds like so much fun! You have some great ideas. And I agree, we are getting together to visit, so a park site would be ideal. I didn't know they played corn hole on the east side - it's been on the west side it seems forever! The brunch sounds great too! By the way, I remember Dale from school. Glad you two are together. Hey Jimmy - I don't remember or know about an italian restaurant in Madeira since I never get over there. I'll see what else is available here and get back to you. Cher |

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Friday, September 4, 2009 01:44 PM The restaurant in Madeira is Ferrari's....very good and nice atmosphere! I think it would be nice to be in the heart of Madeira where we shared so many experiences. I, for one, love Italian. |

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Monday, September 7, 2009 09:47 PM
Ferrari's in Madeira could do dinner for us. If 30 or fewer we could have a room for dinner and circulating for conversation. With a larger crowd there would be space for sit down dinner only. The patio is open seating and may not be reserved. We would be there about 2 hours. Dona Ayers Brock suggested a river dinner cruise and contacted her fav - Destiny. Dinner (Italian fare) cost would be $81.45, lunch $69.23 per person, bar available. In good weather there are 2 decks (for 125 people), lasts ~3 hrs. We would be separated by decks --- the cost would go up if we did not have 100 participants. Not the best venue for visiting and a little pricey for the brief cruise, in our collective opinion. Board Destiny at the western side of Cincinnati. Dona is curator of Madeira Historical Society, HQ in Bruce Miller's family home on Miami, near Euclid -- next to library. She could do a show 'n tell of town/school history. She hasdone fabulous job as a volunteer, organizing materials and creating themed displays. We might learn somethin' .

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Monday, September 7, 2009 10:34 PM Hi Cathie! Thanks for checking on these venues. I did go online and look at the Destiny. I like it........not a bad price for the atmosphere and good food. Looks like it would accommodate a gathering for skits or whatever.....if they accommodate weddings. I think it should be under consideration. Barb |

RE: Date for the Reunion Posted Tuesday, September 8, 2009 12:28 AM senior_dinner_001.jpg Hey guys. Is that $81 per person for dinner and a 3 hr cruise? I went on the Madeira reunion cruise last fall with Mike Heflin, his date, and Karin Stewart - and my wife - the only ones connected to '64. It was OK, with a cheap buffet of ribs and beans and stuff - nothing very special but there was plenty of time and space to mix on two floors of the boat.......and the river at night was beautiful because it was clear. I guess this is just an option right now. It will be interesting how we come to consensus about what the activities will be, once we pick the weekend. Now, look at the attached scan of the senior dinner agenda . If we could only resurrect the music and skits!
Linda Brown, Pat Chase, Mike Boys, Jim Woehr, Susan Lewis, Sandy Rapp and all the rest of you...... can you remember all this so we could do it again next year?
