Harold Wendell "Dell" Miller II

Mr. Harold Wendell “Dell” Miller II, age 71, of Rome, GA, passed away after a long illness, on Friday, April 14, 2023, at a local hospital.

Mr. Miller was born on October 11, 1951, in Beckley, WV, son of the late Harold Wendell Miller I and the late Mary Ellen Baker Miller.  Mr. Miller was a graduate of Osbourn High School in Manassas; VA. Mr. Miller was a demolition expert and worked in the mining industry in Kentucky for over 20 years.   After leaving mining, he came to Atlanta where he learned and excelled in Telecom operations and fiber optic maintenance and was promoted to Operations Manager for the City of Atlanta. A role that he held for 12 years before retiring. He was a licensed pilot and loved fishing.  When his health prevented him from flying planes, he turned his love of piloting to Power Paragliding (PPG).  Mr. Miller also had numerus non powered paraglider flights as well. He was a beloved member of the “Bad Apples” Power Paragliding Club. What he loved most was cross country trips, flying routes over country he had never seen.

Mr. Miller’s quiet spirit and calm disposition made him the favorite Brother, Uncle and Friend. You could count on him for help and support when needed. He was taken from us way to early and he has left a void that will take a long time to get over. But we are comfortable in the knowledge that he is with God, and Heaven is a better place because of him. Love you, Bro!

Survivors include his 3 siblings, Vicki Lynn Miller, Wilmington, NC, Michael P. Miller (Sylvia Lanier), Rome, and David Jeffrey Miller (Linda), VA; his significant other, Debbie Smith, Arlington, VA; 1 niece, Nicole Hawthorne, Wilmington, NC; 5 nephews, Mark Scott, Virginia Beach, Andrew Miller, Dunwoody, GA, Casey Miller, Kennesaw, GA, Robby Miller, CA, and Cody Miller, Northern Virginia; great-nieces and great-nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, April 22, 2023, in Sunset Hill Memory Gardens, 80 Church St., Rome, GA 30161. The Rev. Clifford Free will officiate the service. Harold would want everyone to show up in casual dress. Please, no coat and tie.

A Celebration of Life gathering will immediately follow the graveside service from 2pm until 4pm at The Palladium, 69 Church St., Rome, GA 30161.

Wow! What a shock this news is after talking with Dell at the last reunion. It was always good to catchup with him at those gatherings. This is sad news indeed. Dell was a good friend to me in high school. I remember seeing Woodstock, the movie, with him, and being introduced to a small degree to motorcycling by Dell and Ted. Those two were into it deep. Dell was a caring and peaceful soul. I'm going to feel sad when thoughts os him cross my mind and realize he's no longer walking this earth. And I'll miss him greatly at the next reunion.
