John Breeden
Hi, I am a cousin (and friend!) of John Breeden who was a 1960 classmate of yours. I enclose a memorial pamphlet from his March 8, 2009 service. Many of his personal possessions are now in my home, including his class Reunion booklets-thus your name and address. Having worked on my own class reunions, I know it is helpful to receive updates on classmates, even when sad. John had made a swing through Iowa last summer-Decorah, Amana (where I met him for a looong lunch!), Iowa City, and Belmond before returning to Minneapolis. It will remain a great memory. John had had heart valve repair surgery a few years ago and apparently it was something "heart" on February 13. He had gotten groceries, put some away, let the dog (Charlie) out, went into the office area, flipped on the computer, sat in a high backed office chair on wheels and neither he nor the chair even moved. Because Charlie was never let out, a backyard neighbor sent a friend to check 24-30 hrs. Later. Needless to say, it was unexpected and a shock. John and Sue were divorced after 39+ years, but remained friends, and she has certainly honored John's memory. The memorials will go either to a vintage aircraft restoration project John was following, or to the Belmond library specifically for books on vintage aircraft. Dick and Jane Worm were at the memorial service, so perhaps they have communicated with other classmates, but in case not, I will send this along. I always felt bad that John had to transfer his senior year, but he repeatedly said it was the best thing that ever happened to him. He said his entire Mindset changed for the good and that the atmosphere at Manchester made that happen. (Letter to Gretchen Eibey from Marilyn Peery, 13627 S. 12th Ave E., Grinnell, Ia 50112-7531)
