Aaron, I remember running sprints with you in the dank basement of West High. Remember that rat haven? You were pretty fast, I don't think the rats get any credit. Scott V., I remember edging you out in a race way back in first grade, along the black-top play ground and I remember a game of kick the can in your N. Mankato neighborhood in those days. I wet my pants I was having so much fun...and had to go home. :( But I was always so shy nobody remembers who I was...and won't recognize me at the reunion either. lol

Ahh yes the infamous west basement. Had blocked that part of my youth out. running the stairs was much better. Except for the whole girls lockerroom thing. Some track guys got busted if I remeber correctly. Anybody remember who it was?

Please tell me that someone from a warm state is bringing sunshine and warmth with them this weekend!! The good old weather man says there's snow in the forecast. I'd hate to have to dig out my "moon boots", "snow pants" and "down coat". Then again it might be fun to have some snow and take a tube ride down "Sibley Hill":0)

Tsk Tsk The Vaskinator,
I'm even ok with you telling everyone about the body piercings (All 226) and even the hair do continuum. However, if you tell anyone about my membership to the singing group; YMCA, I will haunt you at work and play a vast array of psychological games on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11/06/08 08:44 AM #28

Jeffrey M. Peterson

Joel you were a fast sprinter too. Remember running neck and neck with me in the 100 meter dashes? Then you started lifting weights and getting really big and I remember the coach getting ticked at you for it because he lost a world class sprinter....I think. And your YMCA musical interest....it must have begun in music theory class. Remember Brian Green and Joanna Matzke and a few others in that class? Did you get an "A"?

I can not even think about the basement at West. I remember having to go down there to shoot archery and someone had a mouse/rat, whatever, run across their foot. Do you think they still use it? If so, I would think the district would be worried about a law suit!

Jeff,

I remember a lot of times hanging out with you, but I don’t remember that race in first grade. In fact, I don’t remember ever losing a race and think you’re using this forum to start some reunion controversy! While I’m in the confessing mood, I think I can safely admit today that the 3 legged cats that ran around your farm haunted me for years! I thought it was a defect from the water, until you let me know that they liked to warm up on your vehicle engines, at least until the fan started to move…

Anyone mind if my date hasn’t graduated yet?

Jeffrey,
I remember you as always kickin' me proverbial tail in sprints, and also what a kind soul you were. So it doesn't suprise me that you are a pastor.... On a different, but kind of similar notation, physically your picture indicates to me that you have managed to maintain some semblance of good shape. Me, on the other hand, since I started my last job have been force fed little debbies almost on a continual basis...... Wanna guess who is putting the gun to my head and forcing me to eat all those nasty little snack cakes? ;)

Joel Wortman

On an entirely different note,
What is everyone wearing to the reunion? I have decided on plad green and purple pants, a bowling shirt with my name sequined on the front, and to top it off; a Ol English Fedora hunting cap.... All plad of course. Also, is anyone going to possibly wear any fake tattoos? If so I can point you in the direction of a fairly competent dollar store....

11/06/08 10:56 AM #33

Cynthia Schneiderhan

Joel:

The last fake tattoo I had was on my ankle. My daughter, who was then 3 yrs old pasted it there. When I went to work the next day, everyone thought it was real. I assured them that if I were to get a tattoo, it most certainly would not be the Easter Bunny with a basket full of colored eggs! Ha!

Cindy,
I so thought about archery class when the reminder of the dark dungeon was brought up. I am sure they have some state of the art digital thing now, or maybe they don't even have to learn it. We also did golf down there, remember that? How about the dances at Lincoln? Is Hardee's still there, they had the best chocolate chip cookies. Any body else still have nightmares about skipping so much school that they didn't graduate and have to go back? On another note has Saturday's family location been announced? Jeff, how is your church, should we come Sunday?

11/06/08 12:18 PM #35

Gregory Hendley

Hardee's has been gone for a while, replaced by a gas station now. And It seems no one has forgotten the famous dirt basement of West.

11/06/08 01:59 PM #36

Barb -

I do remember the dances at Lincoln. I think that was when we were in 7th-8th grade, right? Oh, we thought we were so old and knew everything!

11/06/08 04:06 PM #37

Aaron Lindekugel

Barb, that whole skipping so much school you wouldn't graduate.....Not so much a bad dream but more a rememberance for at least one of us ;)

11/06/08 04:20 PM #38

Scott Vaske

Remember getting in trouble for yelling the wrong lyrics during the song "Shout"? I think that Jeff L Peterson started that...

11/06/08 04:57 PM #39

Jeffrey M. Peterson

Scott you had me laughing hard and long about the three legged cats comment. You DO remember me!!

Barb, all are wel-come to come to the 10:00am service at the Church. I'd definately have to change my sermon though..maybe have the funny people get up and talk for me. (I think I'd have Aaron, Scott and Joel each give one point.) That could be dangerous I know. And by the way, we hung out that last Senior party night didn't we. I had a picture of it on my dorm wall in college my Freshman year.

Since we are all going to be "PUSHING 40" sooner than we like to think ... I thought you all would like this:

George Carlin on aging! Absolutely Brilliant)

George Carlin's Views on Aging

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

'How old are you?' 'I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life! You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony. YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?
You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it’s all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.

But! Wait!! ! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and make it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into! Your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; ‘I Was JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

Susan that was great! Just the sort of bit preachers love. I'm going to steal it and use it some time, I'v got people that are all those ages. :)

Barb my re-occuring nightmare has me back at West High looking for my locker! I can't find it, I'm not sure which floor it was actually on, and if I do have a dream where I find it....I can't remember the combination!

The other dream I have involves realizing near the end of a quarter that I'v been missing a class all quarter accidentally. "Oh yeah...6th hour was supposed to be English and everything is due!!"

Susan, the George Carlin illustration is now in my file. I'll be sure to give you and the Mankatowest88 websit some credit for it too on the day I share it. I'm thinking it will be on March 22nd '09 at our Churches b-day dinner. The Bible College chorus students are coming that Sunday too.

So after checking with my mom this morning,,I hear it really is snowing in Mankato. I really don't think the "moon boots" will match my outfit, but I guess they will have to do! Hope everyone has a safe flight/drive into town, and can't wait to catch up tonite!!!

11/07/08 01:00 PM #44

It is now 79 and SUNNY with a low tonight of 66. But, I would MUCH rather be in the cold with everyone this weekend.

Have fun and feel free to call me and rub it in my face!

Well, Jim Keeling here, and I'm at Pub500 talking to a few people I haven't seen for , oh, I don't know... a couple of decades. W00t!

My wife and I were the first to arrive last night at 7:30, but not the last to leave...somewhere after 1:00am. The last person I talked to was Aaron Lindekugel, I had been looking for him all night. For a while I thought Eric Timm was Aaron...not even close I know. "You live in Owatanna now don't you?" I said. "No, I live in the cities." The falsely identified Aaron replied. It was the first clue that I might be wrong.

Anyway, identifying people was trickier than I thought it would be. Two groups of people were sitting in the reserved section when we arrived. "I don't recognize any of these classmates!" I admitted to my wife. Finally not wanting to be snobish or something, I walked over to a gal that looked vaguely familiar. The years had treated her quite well. "I'm sorry I can't place who you are." I began. "That's because we went to East, and are from the class of 2000..we were sitting here before they put the reserve signs out." she said laughingly. She had spared me from having to go talk to that other group and looking foolish twice. Who knows, maybe they were the class of 2007 from Loyola.

Kimberly Weiland (Walters)

I was not able to make it last night, I have sat this morning going through my yearbook so I have an "idea" of what everyone may look like. OMG! What were we thinking back then?? Ami, do not forget to pin your jeans up to your knees too! :) Anyone up for fumble drills???

11/09/08 05:47 PM #48

Susan York

I got a few phone calls from Ami (Krone), Aaron Lindy… Joe, Tim was that you (?) and some others Fri and Sat night. I don’t know really who I spoke to or what they said but it sounded like I was missing one heck of a party at 2:00, 4:00 and 5:00AM!

Doug, Kyle and ANYONE else – I hear you make it to Palm Beach County once in a while. I would love to have lunch, a beer or two … or even just say hi when you are in town.

I make it back to Mankato every summer and still go to Duck Lake – so hopefully I can get in touch with some of the class of 88 when I am back!
