Since moving back from Milwaukee in the summer of 2007, I've been doing a lot of teaching (St. Norbert College, UW-Marinette, English Language Learners at MHS) and language review work for a translation agency out of Milwaukee.

My clearest high school memories are from our senior year, and I remember the day in April when nearly 2/3 of the school stayed home because of a supposed threat of Chicago or Milwaukee gangs coming to shoot up the school. I was at my locker before 1st hour, about to go home, when Mr. Johnson announced that no one should leave and anyone who did would need a signed doctor's excuse, so I went to classes that had 10 kids at the most and we talked or played games all day. One of my friends came in the morning only to have her mother come sobbing into the school and drag her home. Great times. :-)
