HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY Birthday Rick! Being vertical is GREAT!!! Hop[e it was an awesome birthday!!!
Rickey and Joyce, that is how I always think of them! Rickey and I were close friends in high school, brought together by sports. Coach Traylor used to make Rickey and I run practice together in track because he knew how competitive we were, so that even when we were supposed to be running at 75% speed, neither of us wanted the other to win, so next thing we knew, we were both running at 110%, mainly because of Rickey!
He and I spent half a summer on a shrimp boat out in the Gulf of Mexico, shrimping, fishing, swimming and yes, drinking. The home base of the shrimp boat in Palacious, Texas and their Dairy Queen will never be the same! We spent the other half of the summer working our butts off on a pipeline. We also hitchhiked that summer from Golden Meadows, La. (way below New Orleans near the Gulf of Mexico) all the way to Beaumont, Texas to my grandmothers so she could get us back home in Marshall.
He LOVED jumping off bridges or railroad trestles, like the one in downtown Jefferson or the bridge on the river on Caddo. The day after we graduated from MHS, we jumped off a HIGHEST railroad trestle ever in Logansport, La. It was high, high, high and I admit, even drunk, I was scared, but not Rickey. He approached it like he always did everything, at 110%. At least I was sober enough even drunk (if you can be that way), that I let him jump first, LOL...! He just jumped into the Sabine River like it was nothing!
I tell these stories because Rickey approached everything in his life that way, he always gave 110% at anything he did, sports, life, and to his soulmate Joyce, and their family. He loved them 110%! If anyone in their family had a game, HE WAS THERE!
I never saw him unhappy or not having fun at 110%, he loved life more than anyone I know! If you were down that day, he always lifted you up! In sports (which he loved) and life, he ALWAYS gave more than he took, he was a giver! I cherish his friendship and his forever smile! He will find someone to race with in Heaven, you can be rest assured!
You 100% won at life!
Love ya Rick!
