Scotty Welland

I left Marshall in 1983 when Kyle Neu and I shipped out for Marine Corps boot camp in San Diego. I have lived all over, but finally settled in the Ouachita Mountains in Hot Springs, Arkansas. My wife is a Hot Springs native and she made the decision, so we compromised and I said "Yes, Dear".

After retiring from the military, I took a job with Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer. All of those years watching the trains roll through Woodlawn, I never dreamed I'd be on one. Back then I thought they were something to throw longneck bottles at as they rolled by. When I took a management position they moved us to Salt Lake City.

By a strange twist of fate, in Aug 2018 the railroad was going to move us from Salt Lake City to Omaha. At the last minute they decided they needed me to take over the Longview/Shreveport area, so in September I found myself a resident of Marshall, Texas. I finally made it home.

Even though I have been gone from Marshall for decades, it was fun having my mind wander as I input each name from the annual into the database for this page. So many stories came to mind, many of which should probably never be shared, but they still bring a smile to my face as I recall each one.
