In Loving Memory...
Dorothy "Dottie" Farr
7/5/27 - 5/20/10

Dorothy Ann Farr, 82, of Marshalltown, passed away May 20, 2010, at the State Center, Iowa, nursing home.

Cremation rites have been accorded and her remains are interred next to her husband Dale in Riverside Cemetery.

Dorothy was born July 25, 1927 in Fort Atkinson, Iowa.  Her parents Victor and Emma Tupy preceded her in death. Dorothy married Dale E. Farr on September 24, 1946, in Phoenix City, Al.  Dale preceded her in death on November 23, 1997, at age of 70.

Dorothy spent most of her life in Marshalltown, Iowa.  In her younger years she worked in her father’s restaurant here in Marshalltown as a waitress and later on   worked a number of years at the Fisher Company and the Hy Vee store.  Dorothy spent her later years as a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and thrived on making her home a place of comfort.  She was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church.

She often commented to friends humorously as to how ironic it was that she and her husband Dale have the same first names as her brother and sister-in-law Dale and Dorothy (Tupy).

She has one daughter, Paula Farr, currently living in Denver CO, and three great grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews.  Her closest living relatives are her brother and sister in-law Jack and Hoke Farr who reside in Marshalltown.

She is survived by her brother Dale F. Tupy and sister-in-law Dorothy S. (Schwartz) Tupy of Wooster, Ohio, and her sister Norma Fairbanks of Camanche, Iowa.

We wish to convey a special “Thank You” to the staff at the State Center Nursing Home and Chrissy and Judy of Hospice for the special and compassionate care they gave Dorothy in her final days.  We cannot of course forget to recognize Kathy Wisecarver who befriended Dottie and afforded her a special companionship in her final days.

Jack & Hoke (Hokel) Farr

06/09/2010:   Dottie Farr:

It was the morning after dad died. We were all gathered at mom’s house to comfort each other. Dottie Farr was determined to be Miss helpful, and to fix breakfast for everyone. We all told her that she didn’t have to go to all that work, and wait on us. She insisted, and went to each one of us and asked how we wanted our eggs fixed. The comments were mostly “no matter”, “any way you want”, etc. She kept on pushing until she got everyone’s special order. Finally, I told her if she didn’t mind, I wanted my eggs “over easy”. Beloved Dot – She fixed a huge helping of scrambled eggs – for everyone to share.

Dot, a really great cook, liked to make several pies at once for her and Dale. She would freeze the extras for them to share another time. She would offer you a choice of great pie, but, you were never sure what you would be getting. It would always be good. If there was a C in the crust you would expect Cherry, and if she had enough cherries, that is what you would get. If she was low, or out of cherries, you would get great peach or apple pie. The pie would still have the C in the crust and she would call it cherry pie. She felt free to substitute, and did not see any reason to change her mind on the kind of pie she planned originally. We have always had great fun with her over that.

We will miss her so much.

Jack and Hoke Farr
