I don't remember the Spencer thing? But I do remember I went home the nite of the camp out spilled my guts to my mom about the cops and probation and then they never contacted me so I never had to go. Should have kept my mouth shut.

I definitely would have walked out. Unfortunately, I was not there. My parents would not have cared. Of course their involvement in my life was minimal at best. We don't have to go into that. I pay my therapist enough to work through my sorted past. It was a matter of principle. It turned MHS inside out-as well it should have. Reality check for the principal. Besides, putting sports above academics, and treating the rest of the student body as less than, he had no respect for women. Once when I was on the way to the Junior Rotarians (just my luck to be the daughter of a Rotarian member)- not an option whether to attend. Anyway, as he escorted us out of building he asked Ken Watt what he wanted to do when he graduated from MHS. Did he want to be a doctor? He looked at me and asked if I wanted to be in some sort of clerical field. What an enlightened "leader."

I was not in on the Campout thing but think Jack Petrie needs to get on to defend himself! Where is our Albion contingent besides Cindy K.?

Deb Welp (Daniels)

Albion? I thought Jack lives in Haverhill area? From what I recall Jack's a big boy and can take care of himself! It is interesting though how the same incidents include the same people, but they are remembered so differently! Hmmmm, wonder why that is? NOT!

Haverhill, Albion--same thing! Oops let's hope I didn't offend someone like saying Tama and Toledo are the same thing! :)

I think the stories are the same because this group of people all hung out together. Here's a novel idea: Maybe someone who didn't drink could write something!

By the Way: I so DO NOT remember the pigeons in the round house thing! You say it was the night before graduation? Why don't I remember that? Another question: What day did we graduate on? I would swear it was on a Thursday or Friday night. Am I crazy on this, or just forgetful?

I too am wondering about what day we graduated on.....I know it was not on Sunday afternoon like they do now....it was in the evening. Shannon....I too always thought it was mid week but could have been Sunday night for all I remember.

How about that Bobcat football team! 9-0 and they haven't been undefeated since 1947! Holy Cow! Anyone's child on the team? I think maybe Kendra and Mike Buegley might have one--but they would need to sign up on the page for us to know! :)

I never thought about scanning a bunch. I'm not sure how to do that. I will look it up. You all can go to the Q and A's on this website too. Maybe it's in there. As you can tell--no one is digging the senior picture suggestion including me! :) On my sister's site (Class of 1965) they feature a student every week and when hers came up her senior pic was on there--which I thought was cool. But I'm thinking a lot of that class is retired and has more time!

I wasn't afraid to walk out and I was on the newspaper. but more important, where's all you pics?! I want a preview before I show up! It's not fair. BTW I hope you're all ready to party and get some of that good pizza while we're all together. Oh and don't forget the
BEER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oops! i just remembered. lol. i didn't walk out i was playing piano for the junior high and came back and was locked out. then i remembered i wrote that article in the times-republican and Finnesy hated me from that point on. oh well, see what old age can do for you!

Becky,
You seriously got suspended for being out of the building to help with a junior high music program?! Did you explain the coincidence to the attendance office? And what is "that article" in the newspaper you referred to?

12/07/09 08:21 PM #38

It was titled, "The King Has No Clothes On!" I related the whole situation to the story of how the only one who had the guts to say anything was a kid and how everyone else pretended it was something else. I said that the the principle was the king, the administration was the crowd agreeing with the king, and the students were the boy. Finnesy hated me! Anyway my suspension got lifted as soon as they discerned that I was where I was! What a deal!!!

Worship in my home church. Lunch with my family, my parents, and my grandmother. Maid Rites for supper. It's good to be back in M'town!

I remember telling my parents by leaving a Times Republican on our kitchen table with our pictures on the front page. I just told her I'd be out of school for a few days. Then the unions got involved. What a shock. We organized this and pulled off a victory. The press loved it. What a play and it was just a game to us but what a huge lesson.

My christmas in M'town wont be until after the 1st of the year. My brother Henry is getting married (for the 1st time) on Jan 2. We are so happy for him. He is marrying Dee Tough, Christy Tough's sister. It is nice getting to know their family. Happy New Year to ALL!!!!!!!!

Oh, yes. The Walkout. I read Connie's response and I suppose my experience is similar. I was way into photojournalism and so of course I wasn't going to miss out on the big event, so I was out there with my camera along with what seemed to be the whole school. Greg Widner and John Dodd were also out photographing. But that is where my story ends in similarity to everybody else's. Somewhat to my chagrin, I would say.

After being out for the duration of the activity I recall (a little hazily) Greg, John and myself walking back to the school to find the doors locked. I think Mr. Finnessy himself was at the door and when we got there he sized us up for a minute and then gave the nod for us to be let back in. I guess having a 'press' tag at that moment was worth something, but I felt guilty about not having to pay the same consequences as everyone else. It's true I didn't actually participate in the demonstration per se, but my sympathies were definitely on the side of the people who walked out and it probably would have been a better learning experience if I had been suspended or something.

I remember going to a party that night--I think at Bernie Johnson's and someone said we were standing on "dead pigs" or something like that! It may sound like I'm on drugs--but that's what I remember!

And Kelly, you SHOULD have felt guilty! I remember how mad I was at all you guys for going back in--of course I was on The Yearbook not Pebbles! :)

There was a discussion on here a while back about the campout where many of us got tickets for underage drinking and had to have probation. I was there and do remember that the cops got called because of fireworks, and I don't think we had much booze at all. But it wasn't Deb, Patti, that had the fireworks thing. It was Greg Maddox. He was with Mark (my now-husband) and some other guys, and they all got busted for allowing minors to consume alcohol. It was a lesser charge because they didn't supply the booze. They got a fine and their names in the paper. My mom has the article in a scrap book, I believe. I don't remember who had the sign in their trunk, but it was one of the guys, and it was one of those big road signs with the flashers on it, and the flashers were still flashing! I only went to probation once too, but my parents WAY over-reacted and I also got a couple sessions with a psychologist. That guy was a trip. He tried to get me to admit to all sorts of things I'd never done. I don't think he'd ever had a "good" kid in there. After the first visit I told my parents they were wasting their money. After the second visit, he told my parents they were wasting their money.

Come you guys. Julie Mills is having a battle with breast cancer. All you six figure types can spare $500.00 to help supplement her health care. There is a fund raising account set up at one of the local banks, Reference the class of 80 site to get further information. Our goal should be to take care of her in this regard for the next year. Don't wait another day!

Its great that you posted this about Julie. We have/are going through the same thing. Its rough but the support and love you get from family and friends is amazing. Its the support of our community that has gotten us through the roughest times. Spoke with her today she has a great attitude! If you keep a positive outlook recovery is easier.

Hi guys, treatment is going well and just wanted to report in. Joel is sweet but your thoughts and prayers are what I really need now. They had a fund raiser here once my stupid insurance was dropped and they raised more than enough to help at this point. I know class of 80 were generous. Thank you to all of you that heard and responded. I'll be done with treatments in May and looking forward to the reunion. God Bless Julie
