Children: | Nathan, age 15 was born 6 years after we were married. He is in 9th grade at Tanager Place School in More…Cedar Rapids. Nathan was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4. Thankfully he is fairly high functioning, but he has a lot of problems with behaviors and social skills. It was a tough decision having him attend Tanager Place and not live with us but we knew as parents, we needed to give him what he needed to be successful as an adult, and that meant placement in program at Tanager Place in Cedar Rapids. He is doing well and has made considerable progress since he's been there. We miss having him with us full time but do get to see him long weekends once a month and then longer visits over Christmas and Thanksgiving....usually 10 days with us for family vacations in the summer. Allison was born in 1996 and is in 8th grade at East Marshall School District. She's 13 going on 30! She is very social....friends with the any and all. She really enjoys photography....both taking pictures and having her picture taken (a real ham!) She participates in school sports but does it more as a social event rather than an athletic event....she keeps us young! |

I attended MCC after graduation and got my certification in Medical Assisting 1981 (similar to LPN but trained for office setting). I worked at M'town Family Physicians until 1984 when I decided to return to school and get my degree as a Medical Technologist...attended SDSU in Brookings, SD. I met my husband there and we were married in 1988. We moved to Minneapolis in March 1989 and we continued to live there until Nov. 1992 when we came back to Marshalltown. I worked for McFarland Clinic 1992 until I decided to resign in 2001 as our son was diagnosed with autism 3 years earlier and was having some difficulty...so being a Mom, I took time to be there for him. I returned to work in 2003...was the nursing coordinator and assistant to DON at Villa del Sol until Dec. 2006. At that time, MMSC was starting a new family physician/internal med clinic and I missed direct patient care so I applied and I have been there ever since.
A lot has changed in Marshalltown since we graduated...some for the better...some for the worse but it will always be home.
