Melissa Jane Harris, 53, of Martinsville passed away on Monday, October 4, 2023 at Ascension Saint Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Melissa was born on January 4, 1970 to late Steve Hess and Brenda (Aldrich) Hess in Churubusco, Indiana.

After graduating from college with a Bachelor's degree, Melissa went on to work as a registered nurse most recently at Grand Valley here in Martinsville. She had a special love for gardening and loved being outdoors. Melissa's love of plants led her to enter different vegetables and flowers in the county fair. She was a lover of animals including the smallest of insects. Melissa will always be remembered for her passion of helping others who were in need which carried over into every aspect of her life. Melissa was known as the "neighborhood mom" to many. She enjoyed music and had a love for books.

Melissa is survived by her husband, James Harris who she married September 16, 2000; son, Reid Harris; sister, Laura Hess Davidson.

Visitation will be at Costin Funeral Chapel Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m.
