I'm supposed to cover 19yrs in 5000 characters?! Not possible. (Not gonna waste space with paragraph breaks, so it'll seem like one long run-on sentence!) Went to HSU for 3 Semesters right out of MHS then withdrew (NO, not due to a drug habit!), moved back to Msvl, managed Yuba Feather Medical Group's YC office for a year, then followed a boy I met in Humboldt to Seattle but he ended up being gay (he forgot to mention that when he was convincing me to move up here). Got a good paying front office job at the largest privately owned Medical Firm in Seattle & set out on my own, VERY solo in Seattle. After 6yrs of trying to convince my one & only official boyfriend (who I was with for 2mo my Sophomore year) that I did NOT make-out with one of our classmates while we were together, he finally acquiesced while I was home for Christmas '92 & we talked. I then stalked him (like I do) from here in Seattle, while he was going to CSU & within 6 months, we knew one of us had to move. I'd gotten into a private Jesuit University in Seattle after waiting my year for residency & was all set to go back to get my degrees/teaching creds for Biology & German, but it made more sense for me to move back than to interrupt his education process since he was already enrolled & in classes and working towards Graduating from Chico State. So I moved back, moved in with him and my brother & spent Aug 28, '93->July 2nd, '95 in Chico (by then, we'd gotten married and he'd Graduated with a Bachelor's in PolySci and Pre-Law). We moved to Seattle 3wks after we got married. We got an apartment and my old job back while here on our honeymoon and have been here ever since. I would probably never leave here, even though we were forced out of the heart of the city into the 'burbs due to a very pricey housing market here & wish we were still in "the city", but definitely wanted to raise our family in a liberal, diverse, progressive, gay and culturally friendly, as well as more urban, environment. Liam was born in March '98 on my bro's 25th B-day & my parents' Anniv. Shortly before he was 2, we bought a condo in North Seattle. I worked until Dec '99, but due to health issues, my doctor put me off of work for 3mo and I've not been back since. So I've been a stay-at-home mom for 9yrs now. We had Hayden Aug 28 '02, after trying for 2+yrs to no avail & then finally giving up for the time being & agreeing to wait another 4yrs or so. I'd bought a big bulk pack of preg tests from when we were trying & had 1 left that was going to expire long before we'd use it, so I took it just for the heck of it and VERY unexpectedly (& unplannned), ended up being "+"! This all happened on the morning of Ant's 30th B-day & party...we were pretty shocked by it, but are glad we ended up with one of each flavor. We sold our condo & bought our house in July '03 & as I'd mentioned had to move even further North (& West) & are about a mile from the beach and right on the Puget Sound, and although we can't see the water from our house, it's right there. The kids go to a great school in the 3rd top district in the state and we're 3/10 mile from the school. We're all healthy, despite Liam's Asperger's diagnosis when he was 3 (that he's outgrown and mostly overcome) and my various auto-immune diseases that are kept relatively in check with a fabulous assortment of various pharmaceuticals. We have a 70lb wannabe lap-dog named Memphis Blue who is 1/2 yellow lab & 1/2 siberian husky. She hates the water, but LOVES the snow and is quite fluffy. We have a boy kitty (Seamus Finnigan) who hates strangers, but loves me! He's grey and white and has a goatee and I <3 him hard! I finally found my perfect social niche with a crew of Star Wars/Sci-Fi/comic book geeks/nerds & LOVE them!! We were actively involved in the Seattle Star Wars Society for yrs until our dearest Gold Leader passed away in April '06. The rest of us still hang frequently/regularly, whether it's Karaoke, bowling, trivia, roller derby, flamboyant and large parties for special occasions or holidays or just drinking at the infamous Nitelite in downtown Seattle (the bar that Dog Fight w/ River Phoenix was filmed in). We're ALL big videofiles and have friends who's entertainment systems would beat nearly anyone else's by leaps and bounds. I read fantasy/sci-fi/fiction, especially if they deal with Star Wars/Magic/Vampires/Wizards/Fairies, etc. Ant and I are both of Scottish & Irish descent and we went to Ireland & Scotland back in 1996 & LOVED it. We took a cruise to the Mexican Riviera in 2005 for our 10yr Anniversary. We used to go to Vancouver B.C. a lot because it was cheap and close (2 1/2hrs north) and love the Aquarium with the Belugas, but the exchange rate is no longer in our favor and the whole family has to have passports now to go back & forth. We go on at least 2 big family & friend group camping trips w/ our crew each year, Memorial Day to various parks/beaches & Labor Day we always take over the one group site at the SE base of Mt. Rainier which usually includes up to 25 people. We both like the same music & styles that we did in high school and I change my hair/look monthly, if not weekly. Our political and social ideologies are damn near the same as then and we are incredibly liberal. I still lean heavily toward the goth look and am not ashamed to admit that I occasionally shop at Hot Topic...but at least I feel somewhat deserving having actually been born and listened to most of the alternative music from back in the day WHEN it was released/played, not 20yrs later! I have 8 tattoos (predominantly Celtic Knotwork) and 7 piercings. My favorite hobby is creating movie-accurate costumes, although Ant and I both tend to be addicted to becoming walking compendiums of trivial knowledge and when it comes to movies/tv or music, we are constantly hitting up IMDB and then retaining any info we've looked up. We tend to enjoy movie/tv "quote-offs" with friends too! Life is good!
I'd rather not recall most of what I endured during those 4 yrs, truth be told. I'm more bitter and jaded now because of it. Some that were always very nice and considerate have been quite surprised at how upset I still am over particular occurances (or lack thereof, as the case may be). If you did anything mean enough to land on my "list" then, chances are that if you've not made any effort to make ammends, I'm still as bitter or hurt or angry as I was back then. It's not always easy for some to just get over it or put it in the past, it's a syndrome, I'm sure of it. I have issues and I carry baggage a VERY long way. I believe closure can only be obtained by addressing the issues and in the past I've attempted to do so, even though unsuccessfully.
I will say that I always had a great time on the FLAC trips. I did have lots of fun with my then bff and her crew, but they were not in our class and many of those I remember specifics with were 2-3yrs older.
There are definitely genuine, nice & important people I communed with back then & I am very thankful to have had them in my life, most of those particular people are still in my life. High school was no joyous time for me. The long list of reasons why will be reserved for discussions with a professional, thank you very much! (or my friends who ARE now shrinks!! ;) If you're looking to enable a pity party and are REALLY curious, I have been and will always be an open book.
I do enjoy touching bases with people and seeing everyone every 5yrs or so. However, I will say that it's somewhat of an odd cultural phenomenon to have those that you barely spoke to or interacted with or even knew back then, contact you out-of-the-blue now and want to reminisce with you. Not saying I discourage it, just don't tend to be as diligent about keeping in touch with those peeps.
Stay on target, stay on target...
One of the funniest things to think back on now that is actually not some pissy rant about 20yrs ago is this:
One night my bff and I were out walking around after each consuming 4oz+ of Robitussin DM (clearly my drug of choice back then)...and were pretty darn wasted...we happened upon the house of a boy I had a crush on and he was up working out in a front room of his house and we could see through the window and we totally stood there for what seemed like hours like the complete stalkers we were being and watched him. That was funny.
I've never forgotten that one time, at cheerleading camp, when this one girl was using a brand new razor to shave under her arms and it totally cut her really badly all over both and then the horrible burn and pain that came with applying her deodorant afterwards...ouch!!! It's always made me hurt to even think about it and I've always been super paranoid that that would happen to me when I'm shaving mine.
I once had a dream that I totally made out with one of my female friends and couldn't shake the amorous feelings that that dream had evoked for quite awhile. I think I wrote her a note about it and we still joke about it now...she may still even have the note...she DOES know who she is. I actually did have a lot of fun with her and a couple of others that were forced together on pretty regular occasions...the best part was watching how she managed to get her hair the way she wore it back then. It's a trick I'll never forget and with the cyclical way that styles come back I may just utilize that knowledge yet!
I have good memories of debate...a specific memory of being in the back seat of the school bus with our unbeatable boy duo listening to the Pet Shop Boys. It was SO awesome to go to the State Finals in LA with the two of them and JM. We were given the opportunity to get into SO much trouble and I was the only one up for it, so it just didn't happen...I think we watched Dangerous Liasons in the hotel room that night...BOR-ING!!!
I remember smoking cloves in the quad the one time we had a school dance out there and all the teachers were roaming around and the gal I was with happened to be one of their daughters...I still can't believe we got away with that!
I remember one of my best friends had a crazy warring fued with one of our teachers and was constantly getting into trouble by the teacher, even if he hadn't done anything. Mutual antagonism at its best!
I remember someone with their Motley Crue cassette in Bio at our lab table...totally random, and he was also the FIRST boy I met my Freshman yr that I didn't know, when Mr. Hulbert made us pair-off and write little essays about someone we didn't know in class...I still remember the first sentence of mine word-for-word...but I'm creepy like that.
I remember 2 boys that were upon occasion very nice to me and kept me company on the after school hill-kid bus run.
I remember Sligar's crazy cork-board with all of our dance pictures layered and layered on it.
I remember only one other girl loving ABC and Wham! as much as I.
