Hey Linda, I thought the pictures were going to be in today's paper? Has anyone heard from RogerM. Sandy W. in Virginia I waiting to hear from you.Tomorrow Friday time to let loose and let your hair down, so let's hear some chatter.

Linda, photos are great and your baby is angelic! Guess I will have to go into the investigating business when I get to be a GrandMom so I can afford to buy all the cutesy stuff they have now.

9-11 Where was everybody when terror hit our country?
Thank God for all His blessings He has given us.

On 9-11 I was working from home and had taken a break, turned on what I thought was going to be Regis and Kelly and saw the first plane that had crashed into the World Trade Center. I thought, like a lot of people, that I must have had it on a movie but then I heard Charlie Gibson's voice commenting on what was going on and then saw the second plane hit. I immediately thought where were my children and my other loved ones. I remember driving through town and being suspicious when a plane was flying over, "were we going to be next." What a horrible time for the US and everyone who lost someone or was directly or indirectly effected by it. I think we are all still to this day. God Bless the USA.

I was working in the ER @ UT hospital and not believing my ears or what my eyes were seeing. Truly America needs to repent and ask God for forgiveness and wisdom to do what He wants us to do.

On 9/11, I was at work and a lady next to me had her radio playing very low. I could not hear the words but could hear the 'urgency' in voices on the radio. I called my boyfriend & asked him to turn on the TV...I told him I thought maybe something had happened but didn't have a clue what it was. We then quickly attained a TV at work & watched horrified as the 2nd plane hit the towers. I remember one of our managers saying, "they have just woke up a sleeping giant." I would have to say two major things happened to me simply because of 9/11. First, my son said he was going to join the Marines & do his part to protect our country....he did. He served in Iraq 3 years later (2004) & God brought him home to me. He had one major incident with an IED that hit his convoy...it hit the humvee directly in front of him, and he experienced "leave no man behind" & likely became a man that day, through & through. The 2nd thing that 9/11 did to me is something I am not proud of, but it is what it is. I had NEVER been a racist, but now....I struggle with the middle eastern ethnicity. And I do not think I will ever regain that level of 'trust' with their particular religion. Okay, I'm off of my soap box. God loves them every single bit as much as He loves me, and He died for them also. But, I'm human, and 9/11 affected me in a mighty way.

Debbie,How proud you must be of your son defending our country. I am so proud he chose to do this. Will you thank him for me?

Everything went well at the oral surgeon. Thank God! Three extractions and all were easy. Of course I was asleep so it was real easy. Minimal pain thanks to the good ole oxycodone. Thanks for the thoughts.

Hope everyone has a wonderful, blessed weekend!

On 9-11-01 I arrived at the church to find my business administrator glued to the TV. At first we thought it was a horrible aircraft accident, then the 2nd plane hit, & I remember sayng, "Life is never gonna be the same." I cancelled all programs at the church & waited until just after 2:00 p.m. to be sure no one was coming to a Bible study I taught. I locked the church, set the alarm, & walked outside to my truck. Before I got to it, I was struck by lightning, thrown several feet, unconscious. Eventually I woke up. The storm had all power, landline phones, & cell phones knocked out . . . so I drove home. When Cindy arrived, she took me to ER, where they bandaged my burns, ran some tests, & told me my heart had stopped during the time I was out. Eventful? Yes. Important? Not in comparison to the morning.

Thanks for everyone for sharing their 9-11 stories.
I was scheduled for a root canal, and I was weeding my balloon flowers while waiting for time to leave. I heard my phone ring, and it was Dr Dye. He asked me to not come in, and had I heard the news. I went in and turned on the television, and by then it was about 10.30a.
It was a horrible day, but now we know what to expect.

Just found out that more than one person has had trouble e-mailing me (it must be a glitch on my side) If I have not responded to anyone that has personally e-mailed me please let me know.

Sandy S.
I hope you got the one I just sent. If I forgot to put a subject in, you won't get it. I think I forgot. I have to go walk Rebekah's four legged babies. She is in Atlanta, so I have been getting Drew (18 yrs old) off to school, and taking care of the huskies, and chihuahua. Thank goodness they are coming home tonight. Then off to somewhere else in Oct. Being a dog granny is killing me. If I have to do all this stuff, why can't it be a little cuddily angle like Linda's?

Thank GOD for all of the men and women who serve our country to protect us and give us our freedom. I pray that HE will keep each one of them in HIS care.

Debbie P - God Bless your son for wanting to do his part for his country

Gary-What you went through was just as traumatic for you and your family. I'm sure you all were both doubly in shock by what happened to you as well as to our country. I know the LORD kept you in his hands during that time too, and am glad you are well.

Roger-It's good to hear that you are doing good.

As for 9-11. I was working in the same office that I am now at the university. I usually don't talk on the phone (at work) that often to my husband, but on that particular morning we had some business issues to discuss. I think as I was talking to him, someone came by my office to say that something terrible had happened. The building that I work in has instructional services, so that means we had TV's that we could go to and watch. I rushed down to see what was on TV, and we all were in shock, upset, crying, concerned about our loved ones elsewhere. As well, as wondering what else might happen. I can remember watching live the towers come crumbling down, and thinking that this had to be an act of terrorism. I had at times thought how lucky our country was to not have something terrible happen, but was wondering what, when, and how something like this might happen. They really did not realize how they did wake up a sleeping giant as well as a strong country.

Roger, thanks for letting us know things went well. And thanks to Jon for keeping up with game time. And Debbie, a special thanks to you and your son. God bless him, and God bless the USA!

Gary, your story is amazing. God was certainly looking out for you that day.

On 9/11, I had just finished getting ready for work and stopped by my son's room to tell him bye. He was still groggy from just waking up but said, "Mama, something is going on. Come in here and look." He had the TV on and thought he was watching a movie, then had the realization that this was really happening.

I got to the office and found that one of the reporters had a brother and pregnant sister-in-law in New York City, both of whom worked near the Towers. One of the men in advertising has a brother at the Pentagon. No communications were getting through but we finally found out that all three of them were OK. I can remember so well, Melanie Tucker was typing up school menus and I was working on a feature about custom handbags that day, wondering just what the heck it mattered when people were dead and dying. But, you know what, it finally dawned on me that if we let these animals take away the little things that make up our big picture, we're already doomed. Mel and I do features, the good news, and that's what needed to be done in balance to reporting the "hard" news. It's hard to hear, hard to read, and has to be balanced with good, solid, everyday living so we don't all go bananas.

One thing that stood out to me in those hellish days was how much support each of us offered the other. It's a shame we can't remember that and let go of the petty, jealous, chicken-poop things that come up. 9/11 was a wake-up call and I fear we've gone back to sleep. The God-in-box has been put back, to be taken out for the next disaster.

OK, I'm done preaching now and will turn the pulpit back over to Gary. My break is over and my own duty calls. Just remember to keep praying for our country, for our leaders, for our soldiers and for each other, especially for the people on the Gulf coast.

You know, our grandchildren will be reading all about 9/11 in school, and we can tell them where we were, what we thought, what happened, what we saw on TV, how we felt, etc. It's funny how generations just continue (thank God!)...I remember my father talking all about WWII as I studied it at the ole EHS!

Kathy Phillips (McBride)

Wow, Gary, what a story. So glad you survived that.

On 9/11, we were 11 days into a major new partnership at work, and had been going non-stop for 8 months leading up to the formation. When the news started coming in, it was like the air had been let out of the building. [And immediately, the price of crude oil and gasoline shot up over 30 percent (I track those as part of my job...) which seemed incredibly greedy and hurtful to me during a time of national crisis.]

My aunt's boss of 30 years was on the plane that crashed into the Pentagon.

Sandy, I sent you an email before the reunion. Did you get it? Actually, I think it was a message from here, but it would have sent a notice to your email.

Sandy Smith (Dockery)

I've figured out why my e-mail doesn't always work! John Henry Sebastian has probably sabotaged it so I don't let out anymore info. Hee-Hee
Kathy, the only message I received from you was on the forum talking about our skinny legs while in flag corp.

9-11-01 Hopefully our grandchildren will never experience such an event. I was in my last class at a workshop and the front desk person kept interrupting our class. We were starting to get irritated at her. Finally we came out of the class and the t.v. was on. Enough said. My son's friend was in school in New York. He went on the roof of his building just in time to see the second plane crash into the tower.

The feelings of helplessness is horrible. We had a small service to comfort one another at church. The verse that came to my mind was: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God (AND THE PEACE OF GOD WHICH PASSETH ALL UNDERSTANDING SHALL KEEP YOUR HEARTS AND MINDS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.)

On 9-11 I was working 2nd shift at the time. I was eating breakfast and watching the Today show. They went to video of the towers and like a lot of other people I thought this was just a "horrible accident" then I watched as the second plane hit the tower and I knew that something was terribly wrong. I have to confess, like Debbie Pickel, since that time I have a thing for muslims. I have no problem with racial profiling, especially when I get on a plane. I watch them like a hawk. I have a cousin who just returned from a year and a half in Iraq. Thank God he and his men all returned safely! I think anyone whose religion dictates that they kill all "non-believers" of their religion should themselves be treated to the same end. Nuff said.

Sandy, I just emailed you to talk about beads and jewelry! I checked out your website. I make jewelry, and lampwork beads, and work in PMC. I just give most of my stuff away though. I don't have much time to work on it, so I don't think I could ever amass enough at one time to do a show or anything!

Wow Kathy, how cool making your own beads. My crafts are therapy for me. I enjoy doing craft shows and meeting new people too. This SandyDdesigns.com site was my sons idea. He made it sound easy. I would love to see some of your designs sometime. Hate I missed your e-mail.

Hello, it's Jane. I have been catching up on the messages and reading all of your chating. I'm so glad all of you are fine and everything worked out. For the sick, for the military, and all the rest. God Bless them all!

I've been trying to remember myself exactly what was happening that day. I do know that my Mom had passed away the previous October 31, 2000. I think I was probably at work and we watched the events on TV later unless we found one at work. My sister works at an insurance company off of Cedar Bluff Road. One of the ladies that works there had a brother that was a broker in one of the towers in NY. I can't imagine what she went through that day and what the office was like while she was so upset. Well, he didn't survive.

I hope to never have to go through anything like this again in our lifetime. You know, I read what some of you wrote about the way you felt about the racial feelings. I understand on one hand, but we have to forgive. The Lord says we do. I have all kinds of residents (doctors) from all over the world here at UT. Japan, Russia, Iraq, etc. It would be so easy for me to judge them, but I can't. They are so nice and want to be here to learn. They are not like the people that did those awful things to hurt our people. How could I be mean to them? God makes a difference in your life!

Well, I have written a book. I love you all. Have a great weekend!

Jane

Thought I would put in my two-cents on..what where you doing on 9-11...

I was at work at UT hosp. had just restarted an IV for my patient in room 1208, across from the nurses station, when we saw the second plane hit the towers. I remember being physically upset.

The entire day was uneasy especially that our oldest son was in Venezuela doing his study abroad. When I got home from work that night and started trying to call him, I could not get through! It took until Sept. 15, to be able to talk to him. He & other American students, had been informed of the events but did not have the ability to call home until the 15th. He completed his studies and returned in December.
I will admit Maryville College was pretty good to help families get information to/from their students studying abroad during that time when direct communication was slowed.
