I'm with you ladies, cell phones are way too much trouble to fool with. I have one for emergencies (a really dinky TracPhone) that stays in the car and I only turn it on when I'm running the roads. I don't even know the phone number so I couldn't give it to you if you asked! But I really enjoy computers. I didn't think I would, but they make keeping up with genealogy so much better. And with all the research I have to do, a quick Google is a real time saver. I've started scrapbooking on the computer, too. If I need a certain theme or embellishment, I can usually find it either online or in my software instead of making a special trip to town.

Roger, I'm assuming that Richard Bonds was choir director at Broadway Bapt when you were there...he wouold have had a duck fit if he knew about your dip...with your amazing performance at the Biltmore, was the dip also in place or did you drool?

I remember being stung once when I was spending time with my papaw and granny. I was coming from the outhouse and stepped on a bee with my barefoot. Papaw just reached in his mouth and pulled out a little tobacco and placed it on my foot. I remember how cool and soothing it felt. I still think of Papaw when I smell apple tobacco.

Pat: Richard indeed was the director and no he never saw me "load up". We hung out together some so he knew I dipped...just not in choir. :-D

Sandy: Been putting tobacco on stings since I can remember. Also, anytime we got "skinned up" we would wash the area real good then apply a generous daubbing of coal oil/kerosene to the area. More often than not, you were healed in two to three days. It was amazing.

Hi guys,

Once again! What a hoot reading this stuff!

Roger, I never knew you dipped! My Grandpaw used it for everything! It was a miracle drug back in the day. Watch out for the yellow jackets - Mowing - isn't that why we had kids - so we wouldn't have to do such chores?

When I was about 39, I took a sip from my soda can, we were at Disney with the boys, and a yellow jacket had gotten down inside the can. It stung me on the lip, and of course being totally caught off guard and in great pain I gave that soda can the big heave ho! It landed right on stage with the all the Disney characters dancing around. Imagine how my boys felt when their mother was escorted from the show by security for throwing stuff at the characters on stage. It was all a big mix-up, and once they realized what had happened, they called in the medics and had a good laugh about it! I, on the other hand, swelled up like a huge toad and got to go and lay out by the pool for the rest of the day while the boys did Disney with Dad.

Also, guys, keep me in your prayers. I am having surgery on Thursday for my pinched nerve. I am having a anterior cervical spinal decompression fusion. My Ortho Dr. says he will do it Thursday, come home Friday and be back at work come Monday or Tuesday. Going through the neck - no big surgery - relieve the pressure with artifical bone and Presto - LIke New! My friend, Johanna Kintner Bryant is flying up from Tennessee to take care of me during this time. She went to Murvul!

Okay I too have a yellow jacket story. When I was probably about 4 or 5 I was eating a piece of watermelon, swallowed a yellow jacket which stung me in the mouth. To this day I cannot eat watermelon because it gives me a headache and I know it is psychosomatic but I just don't eat it. Sandy, good luck with your surgery hope it goes that smoothly. And regarding your friend who is taking care of you, we will forgive her because she went to Maryville.

Got to get my 2 cents in!

RE: bee stings and tobacco.
I lived in Asheville NC in the boonies right before we moved back to Maryville. One lady in the neighborhood, Nanny Dewiss, dipped snuff. If you got stung, she'd come at you digging snuff out of her lower lip and slap it on your bee sting. We used to put Nestle's quick in our lower lip and play like we were Nanny Dewiss. It was kind of like tag. If you got caught by whoever was Nanny, you got a big glob of spit and chocolate slapped on yourself somewhere.

RE: cell phone.
I love them. I love to text, and surf the net on them, and take pictures, and play video games, and listen to music. But I hate to talk on them.

Sandy, hope your surgery goes well! Let us know.

Okay Sandy...I am sitting here at work laughing outloud reading your Disney World story...that is absolutely one of the funniest things I have ever heard. You could not make that up..too funny! Everyone at work was looking at me as I had tears in my eyes laughing...of course, they all think I'm nuts any way because they are all in their 20's and I'm sure think that one day soon I will just not wake up because I'm sooooooooo old! :-)

My mom use to keep tobacco around just for the very reason of bee stings. She always said, "it'll pull the stinger out!"

Sandy - I will pray for your surgery to go well!!

Sandy,
I'll be praying for your praying for a successful surgery Thursday girl! Keep us posted! Love you,
Jane

Sandy -- I'll be thinking of you. Take care. Before going to surgery, you make sure that you have chocolate in the house. That cures anything.

Sandy, we'll all be keeping you in prayer tomorrow.

Thanks to those who came to The Daily Times' 125th anniversary celebration/Dean Stone Day yesterday. Everyone seemed to have a good time, but man, are we all pooped. I took about 170 pictures (I know you're all surprised at that), which should be visible now on spotted.thedailytimes.com. Several of us with cameras, in addition to the "real" photogs, shot everything that went on. Jon Denton and Carolyn Lane are in a couple of my photos and I saw Jon in some that Frank Trexler took. We had around 2,000 visitors.

Linda sorry I didn't make it for celebration.

Let us all remember Sandy during her surgery this morning....

Is anyone going to the Foothills Fall Festival starting on the 10th? I have a ticket but depends on when my granddaughter decides to make her entrance into this world....I could be selling it....

Debbie Pickel (Harper)

Diane - I will take your ticket to the Fall Festival if you can find me a good lookin' single man to take me. haha

The Auburn game is Saturday at 3:30 and I think is on WVLT. Is the plan still to meet at Gatti's in Murvul?

Has there been any word on Sandy?

OK everyone, here is the latest on Sandy. My name is Kenneth, I am the "boy toy" who was Sandy's date at the reunion. She told me to say that, I can't believe I did!!
She probably won't believe it either.
She came through everything just fine. The surgeon looked at her MRI again and found another disc which would have given her the same problem in the future. He repaired that one also. The pain in her arm and hand should be relieved now, I hope so.
I don't have a room number yet, I am not even certain the name of the hospital. When I learn more, I will post it asap.
I'm sure Sandy appreciates all the thoughts and prayers from everyone.

Thanks Kenneth for the update on Sandy. You are too sweet to keep us posted. Everyone that I know just loves Sandy. She is one of the most genuine and loving people I know. Hope to get to know you better next time Sandy comes in.

I just got off the phone with Sandy. She is not supposed to be able to talk, but she can. I guess that's good news...?!
Sandy is already checking out the breakfast menu so hopefully her throat won't be too sore to eat in the morning. Her arm and hand are feeling much better now, I know that's an answered prayer.
She is going for x-rays in a few minutes. Sandy sounds a lot better than she has the past two weeks. The pain she suffered took a lot out of her.
She is in good hands, they seem to be taking really good care of her. If all is well, she will be able to go home tomorrow and Johanna, an angel in disguise, will take care of her there.
Kenneth

Susan Jane Loftis (Gracia)

I agree with you. I'm so glad that Sandy is ok. I have a couple of things that I would like to run past you guys......

1) Linda, would you be able to get any tickets to the Fall Festival? I forgot all about it. I'm dying to see Foreigner! My daughter and I would love to see them. She mentioned it a few months ago and then I guess she forgot about it also. If you cannot get any, do you anyone or is there anyone out there that has two tickets to sell? Just let me know. Thanks.

2) Next, Hey guys, just like Linda said, are we still on for Saturday at Mr. Gatti's? We need to get this going so everybody knows where to come and about what time.

09/25/08 09:56 PM #357

Linda Braden (Albert)

Kenneth, thanks so much for letting us know about Sandy. Please give her my best.

Jane, tickets have been sold out for weeks. If you don't get them the day they go on sale, you might not get them at all and I think that's because people buy a bunch of them to resell at higher than face. Try watching the classifieds, you might luck out and find someone who just wants to get their money back.

09/25/08 10:29 PM #358

Susan Jane Loftis (Gracia)

Thanks Linda. I'll check there. I appreciate the tip.

Does anyone want to meet at Mr. Gatti's on Saturday to watch the ballgame?

Jane
