The first thing I learned when coming to McKinney PD in 1978 was the three types of communication at the department. Telephone Telegraph and Telemma. Those were great times that will never be replaced.
You never had to worry about where you stood with Ema, because she'd tell you!! She rode herd on the paperwork and reports while I was there and you couldn't get away with anything, LOL. She is missed.
It's sad that Emma could not be with us to attend. She loved keeping track of all those who worked at McKinney P.D. and kept the pictures of the "old days" on the wall in records. I would sit back and marvel when she would rattle off 10 codes about a call and then think about the fact that I understood everything she just said. She was a wonderful lady.
I recall a night when I was working late and in the dispatch office with Emma Lou. She got a call, hung up the phone, turned to me and said "how do you dispatch a murder." "Push that silver key button and talk into the mike" says I. She was a hoot. She could tell a dirty story, sound like southern comfort on the radio, and be your best friend when you had a problem. She pierced my ears one night while she was dispatching. Talk about multi-tasking!!!!
