I coached for 3 years in Dumas. I started working on my masters from Dumas & finished after we moved to Wheeler. Royce & I married in 1979, and after 1 1/2 years of tumultuous times, moved to gorgeous Wheeler. It's greenness & trees reminded me of my hometown, Decatur, TX. I stayed home 3 years as a homemaker and had our 1st child Kristen. I went to work at the feedlot where Royce worked as a "girl Friday", and in 1983 went to work at Wheeler ISD on an emergency cerificate, which required going back to school at West Texas to get my Mental Retardation certificate. Keri, the middle girl, came along, C-section, Yuck!!!, and I couldn't decide to get tubes tied. (Thus part explanation for "late in life" 3rd daughter, Kaylee.) I have taught Special Education in Wheeler for 27 years. We have lived in Wheeler for 31 years in June. We have raised all 3 daughters in the very friendly, helpful town of Wheeler. It's true, you can call the wrong number in Wheeler and talk for 30 minutes! We have belonged to First Baptist Church for 30 years where I have taught Sunday School in 5th & 6th grade & was in Youth until they graduated me out a few years ago. Now I just wander around all the classes visiting & cheering them up with my bright, shiny, smile & laughter, (when I'm feeling UP!) I have battled with bi-polar depression for 20+ years. The ups are wonderful for me, the downs are horrid for everybody, and the yo-yo affect is HECK for my family all the time! Growing old is not for sissies, per my little brother, Art, who took his life in May, 2010 probably because of depression! Royce & I are very blessed & just became grandparents in Feb. of this year. I have been waiting 16 years to find out what this "grandparent business" is all about & found out it didn't take us long to catch on to it!!! Jeffrey Alan is one precious sweetheart, well worth the wait!
As most of you know, we lost Art to the ugly disease, depression, in May of this year. We all lost a best friend, wonderful storyteller, and big hearted children's man!!! But Heaven is delighting in his wonderful ways, and God has a plan far bigger & better than mine; so, I just resign myself as well as possible to God's will and go about my everyday business. We left on earth are hurting, but he is rejoicing in a new created body where he doesn't have to battle. Praise God for that.

School Story

Our class of 1970 has ALWAYS been great to have reunions with at least 50% participation and lots of fun, memories, and stories of our lives since we last saw each other!!!

I remember the hayrides we had and going to the creek to have a good time. The first one was in the fall. I was on the trailor & David was driving the tractor. I wanted to go see him, & he 'bout had a cat when I surprised him. I'd walked across the tongue on the hiway going 20 or 30 mph. I didn't see anything wrong with it 'til he brought it to my attention. One of my MANY blonde moments! On one, hayride, in the spring, poor Walt was doing donuts in the school parking lot & poorer Cindy was not hanging on & was bashed against the pavement. We wound up taking her to the hospital for a concussion. Lo & behold, Sue Anderson Mann was there with her new baby.

I WELL remember it NOT being hard to move my senior year to a new school because EVERYONE knew who we were in McLean and were sooooooooo friendly, nice and helpful.

I remember our Senior girls' trip to Possum Kingdom Lake. Poor Jackie's dad for taking us all.

I remember walking home from school because I had a flat tire, and when Jenny & I were riding around that night, she & I went to the school, and she fixed my flat for me. Does anyone remember my standard, 1961, blue Biscayne Chevrolet. It had the tail fins on the back fenders! I didn't have it long, because Mother had wrecked her car & used mine to go to work in Pampa (for Dr. Roberts, optometrist) & burned up the engine. She & J. Boyd didn't get it fixed all year & my oldest brother finally came & got it & got it fixed for me.

Remember Mr. Pack & the band teacher, Mr. Janzen, (thanks, Denise). The band kids can remember his name.

Remember Butch & I got "Most Witty"! ??? on my part.

Walt & Karen Stuart got "Mutt & Jeff".

Remember Walt worked ALL the time!!!!

Remember to THANK "Handyman" DDD for fixing us up with this website. He's ALWAYS up on the latest. I remember at the 1984 reunion in McLean at Jim's house, Dennis had the 1st ever video camera, the big honking ones you had to carry on your shoulder. At an earlier reunion at the VFW hall, he had the football films!!! At the 25 year reunion in Amarillo, I nearly dropped his oldest from the 2nd floor balcony. Responsibility is NOT my strong suit, thus MORE BLONDE moments!

I remember our Senior Skip day and going to Amarillo. Honest me had mom write an excuse that I went to the doctor and while at the mall, I went into an eye doctor place & "saw" a doctor! haha, thus eliminating the true meaning of "skip day", oh well.

I remember the Neil Diamond concert in Amarillo & traveling in the Simmons' bus.

I remember the teen dances.

I remember having fun remembering these memories, so I hope everyone else remembers lots of memories too, because sometimes, actually often, we forget the memories until someone stokes the fire of memory, & we all have a good laugh.

The wild women of McLean 1970 are getting together at my house the first week of June to plan the 40th reunion, so send me your preferences on dates. We're looking at 1st weekend of November in the central area of Abilene. Let me know if this is or is not agreeable to you. We can have it here in the Panhandle at the Marion place. (THIS DID NOT HAPPEN BECAUSE OF MY BIPOLAR DEPRESSION!!! fORTUNATELY MY SUPPORTIVE FAMILY, EVEN THOUGH "REALING" FROM THE DEATH OF ART, TOOK ME TO A DAY CLINIC IN RICHARDSON FOR 5 WEEKS & I AM DEFINITELY ON THE MEND, AND INTEND FOR THIS NEW BODY AND MIND TO STAY MANY STEPS AHEAD OF satan AND NOT ALLOW HIM TO GAIN THAT KIND OF CONTROL OVER ME EVER AGAIN!!!! SO PLEASE BELIEVE THAT LIFE IS TOO SHORT & SOME MEANINGFUL EVENTS COME BY ONLY SO OFTEN - PLEASE ATTEND THE 40TH REUNION AT THE END OF THIS MONTH. I'M GOING TO SEARCH FOR A CHEAPER HOTEL SITUATION NEAR THE EATING PLACE. PLEASE LET ME HEAR FROM YOU!!! & THAT YOU WANT TO GET TOGETHER WITH FRIENDS, AND YOU WILL DO YOUR BEST TO ATTEND. LOVE YA, CLAUDIA
