Sean Matteo

After graduating from high school I was off to Rutgers U. in New Brunswick only to contract mono halfway through the first semester. After withdrawing from the semester I was sick for about 3 months. I ultimately took a year off and worked full time at Medford Village Country Club on the course. I also was working on my golf game which I had just picked up before I turned 18. I had tried out for Mr. Thorpe's golf team at Shawnee, but was cut because I was a senior. After that my game really developed. During my year off I would arrive at Medford Lakes CC at the same time the Shawnee team would be teeing off. Thorpe wouldn't always let me play through. Every time I would rip one down the middle of the first fairway, about 300 yards. I would look at Mr. Thorpe and he'd just shake his head. I re enrolled at Rutgers Camden and started in the fall of 1990. Starting as a business major, I got to be friends with a player on their golf team. He got me a tryout and I walked on Rutgers team and played all four years on the A team. It was one of the best experiences of my life. The guy that got me the tryout is still one of my best friends. After 2 years of boredom in business I switched majors to Nursing because I had been a volunteer EMT and my interest changed. I volunteered and worked as a professional EMT for 6 years while getting my Bachelor's degree in Nursing. After graduating and passing my nursing boards I couldn't find a job because the market was glutted. I looked for a year. During this time I broke 70 for the first time on the golf course and have done so a couple dozen times since. When I realized I wasn't going to get a good nursing job I decided to accompany my then girlfriend Holly, to Logan College of Chiropractic in St.Louis, MO. While this was the hardest and most challenging four years of my academic career it was by far the most rewarding. Holly had started a semester before me because I had to take organic chemistry 1 and 2 and physics 1 and 2, which I did in 12 weeks. Holly graduated from Chiro school in August of 2000. On September 9th, 2000 Holly and I were married on Hilton Head Island, SC. By then Holly and I had both passed all four parts of the National Board Exam and I finished my last semester and graduated Dec. 16th, 2000. Two weeks later we were packed up and on our way to Hilton Head, SC to tear up the world. After failing to get a business start up loan for a year Holly and I both worked full time to pay the bills. During that time we networked and got to know people that helped us get a loan. We became incorporated in April, 2002 and have been in business since. We now have two offices, on Hilton Head Island and in Bluffton, SC. We have 3 beautiful children who bring us all the joy we need in life!

All I can say about High School is that it was a blur. I know I had a blast. I went into high school an introverted loner and came out as an extrovert who was confident and ready to take on anything. I look back at the friends I had at Shawnee and I have to smile. Andrew Steel, Matt Minnium, Russell, JJ Milano, Brad Mauger, Kristen Mesarick, Meg Duggan, Brad Walsh, Pat Lowery, Bob Posma, Jennifer Pino, of course my wife Holly and so many more. The fun we all had can never be replaced. We managed to do it safely. Anyone remember John Isidro's New Year's Eve party? The genesis of the "beer bong" which I'm sure Andrew, Matt, Russell and I brought to Shawnee. And of course my nickname, "Dago" which I wore with pride. Thanks to everyone for making it such a good time.
