Getting degrees in literature and liberal arts that prepared me for...looking for work. Setting out for Brazil on my Harley-Davidson, discovering things about people and myself and having adventures. Meeting Elsa, the love of my life, and persuading her to run away from her circus join me. Ten tempestuous (she was Spanish), wonderful years, until she died of leukeemia in 2003. Since then building and rebuilding, and stopping more to look around, to practice my craft, and to be kind and patient.

School Story:

I recall cutting study halls and getting jelly donuts at Gentile's (?) bakery, and then going to Richard's Five and Dime store to play pin ball.

I liked that our school had a library and a librarian. I don't remember her name, but I remember that she was a Jimmy Dean fan. I always thought that Mr. Charles, the band director, liked Grace Porter, the music teacher. It was a fantasy I had, probably coming from the fact and I liked them both.

Ralph and I grew up together as neighbors. I remember winter sledding down the hill behind his house with him, and cousin Barry, and sometimes little brother Bart, and Barry's brother Wayne. We ran and belly flopped to gain speed and flew over those two bumps near the bottom of the hill, and, if we had enough speed left, across Carolyn Ashworth's lawn, down onto Concord Road. As teen agers we waited for the Bethel Township school bus acress from the McKinley blacksmith shop to take us to Media High. On snowy days we hoped the bus wouldn't come, or wouldn't make it up that steep hill jusst outside of town. Rest in peace, my friend.
