A Beautiful Mind

I met Keith on the playground of Rosetree Elementry school in 5th grade and we became instant friends.Our paths connected and collided from then to his passing a couple of years ago. Keith, one of the most brilliant people I have ever known, struggled with Schizophrenia his entire life and as he became older the disease caused him to alienate and force away the very people trying to help him. He bravely and proudly faced life's battles asking no one for help.

One evening a mutual friend and I drove down to the area we thought Keith may have been staying around to see if we could find him as we had not heard from him in several months. We were able to find him and took him to dinner but as soon as the dinner was finished he slipped back into his world of homelessness. He had figured out a way to survive and was evidently comfortable with the lifestyle.

I would ask that any one who was a friend of Keith's to watch the movie "A Beautiful Mind" as he asked me to do, to gain a better understanding of his life and struggles. Unfortunately Keith was never able to accept the help needed to overcome the disease. He passed away peacefully in a hotel room from complications from undiagnosed prostate cancer.
