Dawn died of leukemia. i don't know the year. I was the director of our American Literature play and Dawn had the female lead. She was briliant in her role as the mom in "Visitor From Forest Hills". ~ Nina Keck

DAWN KURTH, 25, who received national attention in the 1970s as a schoolgirl consumer advocate and who earned a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism at the University of Maryland in 1985, died Sept. 5 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where she was being treated for cancer. She lived in Palm Bay, Fla.

Miss Kurth was 11 when she was nicknamed "Melbourne's Ralph Nader" after a Florida crusade against deceptive television advertising on the grounds that it could harm children.

She surveyed her elementary school classmates' opinions on images, such as vitamins designed to resemble candy, reported her findings to the Senate and appeared on "The Mike Douglas Show." While at the University of Maryland, she worked for WBAL-TV in Baltimore and on the staff of Rep. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.).
