Comments:
Sorry we didn't send something before - I'd like to say we've been busy but I'm certain that applies to everyone. SO, let's see, 30 years; damn, that's a long time. Relatively quick summary to follow:
1980-1984 - Dan graduated from UofS with a Civil Engineering Degree; started work immediately with CPR
1985 - Married Ann Habberfield(obviously a very good decision - it seems we're approaching 25 years, but known each other for - ever!)
1991-1993 - Dan graduated with Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from UofS. Moved to Calgary in 1991 (Ann was 8 months pregnant with Kristen when we moved; what a trooper). Me on the road most of the time, working on my thesis when I was at home and Ann with three kids under the age of four - OK, maybe I'm not such a nice guy.
1994 - Moved to Vancouver with CPR as the Manager of Environmental Affairs for western Canada
1996 - Moved back to Calgary (thank God!)
- Shortly therafter, Ann started studies at Mount Royal College and received her certification in Massage Therapy. Worked for a number of years at a clinic here in Calgary -retiring recently. Truly a leader in her field with a number of 'very' interesting cases.
1997 - After a long heart to heart with both Ann and myself, decided to leave CPR and join a private consulting engineering firm. Primarily a life style choice - wanted to be home more. Have changed firms a couple times since. In my current position I head up the Southern Alberta district for AECOM Canada; the largest engineering firm in Canada. Have been accused on several occasions of being a workaholic - just not true!
Greatest Achievement - by far - our kids. Personal greatest achievement, I coached (or helped coach) 25 of our kids sports teams, both baseball & hockey, including all-star baseball and AAA hockey.
Ann and I have tended to live our lives through our kids sports (and in hindsite, liked should have focused more on academics).
- Ryan - played baseball, hockey, football, rugby and wrestled. Played rugby in New Zealand with high school team. Currently wrestles with the University of Calgary while taking engineering. Was the Canadian Junior wrestling champion in 2006.
- Mark - played hockey, baseball, rugby and football. Played rugby in Australia with high school team. Currently still plays hockey and works.
- Kristen - in sports, focuses on hockey and rugby. Fortunate that her spring AAA hockey team went to Europe this summer and played in Switzerland, German and the Czech Republic.
Ann and I recently discovered the travel bug. We'd never been over the pond; SO, last fall we went to Scotland, this spring we went to London, this summer we toured Europe with our daughter's hockey team (and we just got back last Sunday from Niagara Falls - I'm tired)!
We're really looking forward to seeing everyone on the long weekend. As luck would have it, Kristen has a hockey game in Medicine Hat on the Friday evening - oddly enough playing Naomi Dawson's (aka Parker) daughter, so we likey won't make Melfort until the dinner on Saturday. Should be a blast.
Hey Wopper - loved your profile. I never saw that side of you when we were room mates at University. Is it true that if you were an inch taller -you'd be round?
