The National Breast Cancer Foundation reports that a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes. Innovations in research, surgical options and clinical trials give women many more options. With early detection, a woman’s survival rate goes up. That’s why breast self exams are an important way for women to give their “girls” a fighting chance, especially during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2020.
In 1980, a woman promised her dying sister to change how Americans thought about breast cancer. Thirty years later, the result - the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation - is one of the nation's largest non-profits, and one of the most successful triumphs in public health marketing and changing health habits.
Breast cancer is being detected at an earlier, more treatable stage these days, largely because women are taking more preventive measures, like self-exams and regular mammograms. And treatment is getting better too.
The most common risk factors associated with male breast cancer are age, exposure to higher levels of the hormone estrogen relative to the male hormone androgen, radiation, and a family history of female or male breast cancer. Increased age is the most common risk factor for breast cancer in men.
Most cases of breastcancer with men included liver disease and alcoholism. The alcohol damaged the liver, the liver damage created an imbalance in hormone regulation and that led to more activity in the malebreast. So due to the significantly less frequency of cases maybe that is why wehear less of malebreastcancer.
Richard Roundtree, the leading man behind ‘70s ace detective Shaft and star of Roots, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993. He is a survivor after a radical mastectomy and several rounds of chemo. This occurred during his career resurgence, starting with a role on Beverly Hills: 90210. He has gone on to star in Seven, The Closer, Heroes, and Speed Racer.
Education begins the gentleman, but reading, good company and
reflection must finish him.
~ John Locke ~
Happy Birthday NUPE! Back in the day, you’d be stomping the yard outside on the TSU Amphitheater, with your cane close at hand. However, today you’re about to celebrate another flourishing event. John Locke set the stage when he stated “Education begins the gentleman, but reading, good company and reflection must finish him”. May your celebration include an advantageous gathering of family to bless you with beneficial instruments of value. May they become the good company which causes you to reflect upon just how much finishing you have completed, thus far in life. There’s much more to come. John also said that reading would also finish a gentleman. Your TSU higher education experience was composed of numerous guidelines, regulations, deadlines and rules of compliance. Had you not read and maintained a dynamic degree of vitality educationally, you would have been kicked off the Alpha ThetaProbate line.
Here’s an Anonymous saying for you “Three simple rules in life: If you do not go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you do not ask, the answer will always be no. If you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place.” While celebrating your birthday today, take a moment to reflect upon the words of John Locke and Anonymous. Your milestone accomplishments and total finishing has yet to be completed. Follow those three rules in life, because there’s additional room for you to become “A name understood by few, used by many and respected by all”. May you have a Paul Jackson Jr type of celebration today. May you step to “The Power Of The String” and “Bounce Wid’ It” while strolling into the Gentry Complex for the big show….enjoy your day….stay safe my friend…
We are the spirit children of a Heavenly Father. He loved us and He taught us before we were born into this world. He told us that He wished to give us all that He had. To qualify for that gift we had to receive mortal bodies and be tested. Because of those mortal bodies, we would face pain, sickness, and death.
It is a sacred gift to shine your brightest light, not just in your
moments of glory, but each day.” ~ Debbie Ford ~
Happy Birthday Alice! Milestone achieved. Born three days prior and three years later, Debbie Ford was an embodiment of you. I’m not sure if you’ve published any books yet, but she was an American self-help author, coach, lecturer and teacher. All great proportioned characteristics, which may be authenticated through research. Debbie wrote “You are on a soulful path that asks you to step into the greatest version of yourself. It is a sacred gift to shine your brightest light, not just in your moments of glory, but each day.” Your first step on the soulful path towards another great version of yourself begins today. As you celebrate with family, may your brightest light shine, during your heartfelt moments of glory. May the gifts received reflect that bright prism of light that encompasses you. Debbie says you should continue to shine your brightest, each day. Here’s an additional reason why you should. The Good News Translation of Matthew 5:16, perfectly explains; In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven. Although your family knows you very well, you’ll once again venture out publicly after this pandemic, on your soulful path to a new day. To live in the light of a new day and an unimaginable and unpredictable future, you must become fully present to a deeper truth - not a truth from your head, but a truth from your heart; not a truth from your ego, but a truth from the highest source (Debbie Ford). Truth be told, you’ve been blessed by the highest source, sequentially, by the accomplishment of this milestone. Your future remains bright and I pray that your health remains also. After your day of celebration, I wish you a Dee Brown kind of evening. You’re going to need “A Little Elbow Room” to relax, because “It’s Just A Good Feeling”…..enjoy your day….stay safe my friend….
Give yourself a gift of five minutes of contemplation in awe of everything you see around you. Go outside and turn your attention to the many miracles around you. This five-minute-a-day regimen of appreciation and gratitude will help you to focus your life in awe. ~ Wayne Dyer ~
Do not have evil-doers for friends; do not have low people for friends:
have virtuous people for friends, have for friends the best of men.
~ George Santayana ~
Happy Birthday Jerry! Congratulations on your most commemorative milestone accomplishment. May your celebration with family be as colossal as George Washington crossing the Delaware River on Christmas day. Speaking of George, some great advice was given by him, years ago. Remaining fundamentality important to this day, he said men should; “Associate with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than in bad company”. The most notorious reputation that you were known for developed from a result of being “mean”. Essentially, that only applied on the gridiron. You became known as “Mean Green”, defensively. However, everyone knew of your good qualities too: respectful to your parents, love for your family, dedicated to your children and your spirituality. Maybe our association over the years is one of the reasons why I’m not known to have a reputation. Or at least one that I’m aware of which includes bad company… military life excluded…
There’s another George, who also gave great advice. George Santayana was raised and educated in the US from the age of eight and identified himself as an American. He was a professor at Harvard, although he always retained a valid Spanish passport. George was popularly known for aphorisms, which are memorable sayings and often contain a surprising truth. One aphorism from his collection states; Do not have evil-doers for friends; do not have low people for friends: have virtuous people for friends, have for friends the best of men. As you celebrate your achievement today, know that this aphorism, truly describes you, our concept of friendship and our association over the years as menof good quality. I salute you and on your behalf, wish you a Michael Lington type of day. May there always be a “Silver Lining” overhead, to escort you roundtrip upon exiting the house. Always use caution when “Jaywalking” across Grey Bark Drive to visit our friend Willie Taylor….enjoy your day….stay safe my friend….
