Growing up in Memphis and listening to all kinds of music and dreaming... So that was one of the first times I wrote a complete song and set it to music and the whole bit. From then on, I was busy with it. When I came out of the military, I had a club in Memphis and I started using the The Bar Kays as my club band. They were still only in the middle school - but I'd take them on the road with me on the weekends, sometimes.

Jazz music is a language of the emotions. Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity. I'm trying to play the truth of what I am. The reason it's difficult is because I'm changing all the time. My music is evidence of my souls will to live.

Help us to be ever faithful gardeners of the spirit, who know that without darkness nothing comes to birth, and without light nothing flowers. The garden is growth and change and that means loss as well as constant new treasures to make up for a few disasters. Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace.

~May Sarton~

Greetings to each of the Gardeners, within the Class of 1970. If you haven't already started nor completed the task of renewing the health of your garden, here's a tip from John Thomas and myself. Tend your soil for the upcoming fallow season, as you prepare for next seasons bounty of harvest. Left unsown for a period of time in order to restore its fertility as part of a crop rotation or to avoid surplus production it doesn't take much to complete. Now's the time to clean up your end of season growth and add those dietary organic nutrients for spring planting. You'll be happy that you did.....

Growing old is like being increasingly penalized for a crime you haven't committed. In the final analysis, the questions of why bad things happen to good people transmutes itself into some very different questions, no longer asking why something happened, but asking how we will respond, what we intend to do now that it happened. It doesn't matter if the water is cold or warm if you're going to have to wade through it anyway.

~Pierre Teilhard de Chardin~

So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

Give me a sense of humor,

Give me the grace to see the joke,

To get some happiness from life,

And pass it on to other folk.

Good day fellow Warriors, the time and effort put into this newsletter is priceless. Yesterday (December 14) Kenneth during his travels, took the time to come to Pensacola and visited. Although it was brief, I felt honored that he would do that. Having said all that, after all this time he's still a friend that sticks closer than a brother. Again kudos for your dedication to task. Curtis Farmer.

Albert Einstein said, “A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labors of others, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to gain in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving."

Let us do the same.
