Your body is an absolute mirror of your mind. As you worry, your body shows it. As you love, your body shows it. As you are overwhelmed, your body shows it. As you are angry your body shows it. Every cell of your body is being allowed or resisted by the way you feel. 'My physical state is a direct reflection of how I feel', instead of 'How I feel is a direct reflection of my physical state'.

Wellness that is being allowed - or the wellness that is being denied - is all about the mindset, the mood, the attitude, the practiced thoughts. There is not one exception, in any human or beast; because, you can patch them up again and again, and they will just find another way of reverting back to the natural rhythm of their mind. Treating the body really is about treating the mind. It is all psychosomatic. Every bit of it, no exceptions.

Yogurt Now Being Used For Therapy?
Writer Sara Bir finds the act of making yogurt therapeutic and is an example of how many activities can serve a therapeutic purpose.
By TORI HOOK - Tell Me Best - Consumer Knowledge And Information

In a culture that is slowly but surely starting to a place a priority on mental health, folks are willing to try anything that might help alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, or just general overwhelm. Therapy has lost much of the taboo it held in the previous decades, and everything from goat yoga to sober lifestyles to treating yourself with luxurious bath products is now on the table as people try to determine what choices and activities make their minds just a little bit easier to inhabit. For writer Sara Bir, that activity is making yogurt. The process of making yogurt is not an incredibly complicated one, but it does require patience, time, and the occasional bit of troubleshooting. According to Food & Wine, Bir’s weekend yogurt-making has so helped her physical and mental health that it’s become something akin to a religious practice for her.

It’s no surprise that rituals help us feel safe, secure, and at peace. After all, rituals have been part of human existence for as long as it’s been recorded, from religious practices and services, to a well-brewed cup of coffee in the morning, to the crafting of a great cocktail after the kids go to bed. It’s why so many companies these days strive to provide those traditional rituals in new, healthier ways, like Monq’s Essential Oil Diffusers that function like cigarettes or Ritual’s Non-Alcoholic Spirits. There are lots of healthy alternatives to rituals that may not be serving us well and, for Bir—and maybe for you, too—that ritual is yogurt. Bir first started making yogurt after spending too much time staring at the myriad yogurt options at her local supermarket. Bir wanted something simple, not to mention more earth-friendly than the often non-recyclable plastics that most commercially-produced yogurts come in. She started making yogurt in her Instant Pot, over the weekend, when the demands of her work and life schedule were fewer and allowed for time to trust the yogurt-making process.

Now, years later, Bir still makes yogurt in her Instant Pot every weekend. She’s part of various online forums where other novices and experienced yogurt-makers share recipes, ask questions, and generally discuss their diverse processes and experiences. As a person with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Bir often struggles to complete tasks that include multiple steps; yogurt-making not only serves as a brain exercise but as a way to practice self-forgiveness, as there are myriad ways to fix yogurt gone wrong or make up for a missed step. Yogurt as therapy is less about the yogurt itself and more about finding the activities and rituals that make you feel more at home and at peace with yourself. While Bir found this therapy for herself in making yogurt, others find it in the outdoors, in cooking, in crafting, or in creating art. In a world that seeks to monetize and capitalize on your time and energy, it’s important to find rituals in your life that are just for you, ones that truly serve as therapy—whether that’s yogurt or something else.

Happy International Women’s Day to the Fabulous

                 Women of BTW 1970!

Good Evening Fellow Classmates!

I haven’t posted anything all month, but I have been reading our website almost daily.  Let me extend my gratitude to Estella, Joycelyn, and Ken for the awesome Black History information that you shared with us daily! I see that the information that will be shared during March for Women’s History Month will be just as stellar!  Thank you, thank you, thank you! All of the posts have been uplifting (as usual), but seemed to reach a new and higher level!

Happy Belated Birthday to my February classmates and the March celebrants.  I don’t know if she is on the website; but Brenda Joyce Smith is a Leap Year baby, so Happy Birthday to You!

I pray that God will continue to bless each and everyone of us!

Be Blessed!

It is not women's liberation, it is women's and men's liberation. Our goal in the '70s was to end the closed door era. There were so many things that were off limits to women, policing, firefighting, mining, piloting planes. And the stereotypical view of people of a world divided between home and child caring women and men as breadwinners, men representing the family outside the home. Who will take responsibility for raising the next generation? Adult women are able to make decisions about their own lives' course no less than men are.
Women will only have true equality when men share with them the responsibility of bringing up the next generation. Depriving a parent of parental status is as devastating as a criminal conviction. One thing that concerns me is that today's young women don't seem to care that we have a fundamental instrument of government that makes no express statement about the equal citizenship stature of men and women. They know there are no closed doors anymore, and they may take for granted the rights that they have.

We Wouldn’t Have These Things If It Weren’t For Black Women
By
Nathaniel Weekes

Many industries and individuals benefit from the inventions of Black people, especially Black women. These brilliant minds gave us amazing inventions we still use today, from components of common electronics to essential home systems. You could argue they pushed society and progress forward thanks to their trailblazing creations. Below are some life-changing inventions created by Black women.

Home Video Security Systems

Marie Van Brittan Brown worked long and late hours as a nurse in Queens, New York, becoming concerned about her safety when she came home. So, she and her husband, Albert Brown, put their heads together and created the first video home security system in 1966. The couple patented their trailblazing product in 1969, paving the way for modern home security systems like Ring doorbell cameras.

Sanitary Napkins

Before we had tampons and menstrual pads, Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner invented a "sanitary belt" that would become to precursor to such items. While she faced financial issues and racism from both companies and officials, she eventually got her patent for the revolutionary product. Anybody who's ever needed something during their time of the month can thank her.

HVAC System

You can thank Alice H. Parker for heating systems in homes, businesses, and other buildings today. The Howard University student and New Jersey native lived in cold climates, so she patented a central heating system using natural gas in 1919. Her invention laid the foundation for modern HVAC systems and allow you to stay warm during the winter.

Fiber-Optic Cables

Phone calls and the internet wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Dr. Shirley Jackson, the first Black American to graduate with a doctorate in particle physics. This scientist was behind major telecommunications research, leading to touch-tone dialing, caller ID, call waiting, and most notably, fiber-optic cables. If you're not familiar with fiber optic cables, they're the cords that transmit data at light speeds. It basically facilitates corded phone calls and broadband Internet, marking huge changes in communication technology as we know it.

Ironing Board

While ironing seems to be going out of fashion, there was a time when it was a necessary thing to do. As such, ironing boards became essential home products. Enter Sarah Boone, a freed slave and dressmaker looking to make the ironing process much easier. Her improved ironing board kept clothes in place, made it so no impressions were left on the board from the iron, and featured foldable legs for easy storage. Boone earned a patent for the product in 1892.

Clothes Wringer In Washing Machines

You know how washing machines spin out the excess water that seeps into your clothes during a spin? It's thanks to Ellen F. Eglin that we don't have to worry about that kind of thing. The invention, created in the 1860s, made doing the laundry easier as you could quickly hang clothes to dry. Because of times, however, Eglin sold her work to Wringer Company and never saw money from the revolutionary addition.

I like to think of music as an emotional science. Life is a lot like jazz. It's best when you improvise. Look at the piano. You'll notice that there are white notes and black notes. Figure out the difference between them and you'll be able to make whatever kind of music you want. Jazz is one of the best things that you can find in your life, it can always be your friend. When jazz is played in another nation, it is called American. When it is played in another country, it sounds false. Jazz is the result of the energy stored up in America.

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND  by Marsha Burns

March 11, 2023: Refuse to be rattled by startling challenges when things do not go the way you expected. Roll with the punches, and do the best you can with the unexpected. Stay steady and go with the flow of the only constant in your life--My Spirit. Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

  T H O U G H T   F O R   C O N S I D E R A T I O N

In prosperity let us most carefully avoid pride, disdain, and arrogance. In prosperity our friends know us; in adversity we know our friends. You are always a valuable, worthwhile human being - not because anybody says so, not because you're successful, not because you make a lot of money - but because you decide to believe it and for no other reason. With everything that has happened to you, you can either feel sorry for yourself or treat what has happened as a gift. Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose.
Be in a state of gratitude for everything that shows up in your life. Be thankful for the storms as well as the smooth sailing. What is the lesson or gift in what you are experiencing right now? Find your joy not in what's missing in your life but in how you can serve. When you are able to shift your inner awareness to how you can serve others, and when you make this the central focus of your life, you will then be in a position to know true miracles in your progress toward prosperity. Change your inner thoughts to the higher frequencies of love, harmony, kindness, peace, and joy, and you'll attract more of the same.

March 12, 2023: Life is full of ups and downs, but you can quite easily navigate your course when you stay connected to Me. I will give you purpose and direction and the ability to face and overcome every difficulty you encounter. Isaiah 45:2-3 I will go before you and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron. I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel.

T H O U G H T   F O R   C O N S I D E R A T I O N

Pause and remember - Every morning is a new page in the story of your life. You are creating your life at every moment. Think wisely about the day you want to create for yourself. Everyone gets discouraged and feels lost at times. Don't worry - life will get better. A new way is being made for you. Keep moving forward even if it's just baby steps. If you empty yourself of yesterday's sorrows, you will have much more room for today's joy. The spiritual path is not always going to be smooth and easy. There are going to be difficult situations, hardships, losses and lessons. Don't lose faith along the way. You are exactly where you need to be. The more you stay focused on your blessings the less stressed your life will be!
Pause and remember - Every single event in your life, especially the difficult lessons, have made you smarter, stronger, and wiser than you were yesterday. Be thankful! Every person is going through difficult hardships and growth. Let's be more conscious of this by being more patient, compassionate and understanding. Nothing lasts forever. Better days are coming, but they will come faster with faith.

Millions of people never analyze themselves. Mentally they are mechanical products of the factory of their environment, preoccupied with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, working and sleeping, and going here and there to be entertained. They don't know what or why they are seeking, nor why they never realize complete happiness and lasting satisfaction. By evading self-analysis, people go on being robots, conditioned by their environment. True self-analysis is the greatest art of progress.

Forgiveness is a spiritual practice and biblical mandate from the New Testament that many American Christians engage in as a part of their faith. Forgiveness is enshrined in the Lord's prayer - forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. These scriptures point to the power of forgiveness not only as a way to absolve transgressions but to ensure that the person extending forgiveness will be forgiven of theirs.
As a black woman in a nation that has taken too many pains to remind me that I am not a white man and am not capable of taking care of my reproductive rights or my voting rights, I know that this American god ain't my god.

You can't change the fruit without changing the root. Most of us think we don't have enough time to exercise. What a distorted paradigm! We don't have time not to. We're talking about three to six hours a week - or a minimum of thirty minutes a day, every other day. That hardly seems an inordinate amount of time considering the tremendous benefits in terms of the impact on the other 162 - 165 hours of the week. The problems in life come when we're sowing one thing and expecting to reap something entirely different.

WELLNESS WEDNESDAY

Why You Shouldn’t Exercise On An Empty Stomach
By CHARLENE BADASIE - Tell Me Best > Consumer News

Eating two or three hours before an exercise longer than 45 minutes is healthier for your body and will help you to perform better during your workout. Ask any medical professional about the importance of exercise and the universal answer is people should be doing it regularly. But exercising on an empty stomach, also known as fasted cardio, could do more harm than good. Although your body will feed on stored fat for energy leading to higher levels of weight loss, there are a few good reasons not to.
Before embarking on a regular exercise program, it’s important to know it affects your body. During each workout, your body taps into stored carbohydrates in your liver and muscles for energy. Your liver will break down its glycogen to maintain your blood glucose levels, which your muscles use for energy in addition to their own glycogen stores, the Cleveland Clinic says. But your body can only store enough glycogen to support a moderate-intensity workout. When this is used up, your system will tap into fatty acids for fuel. Some folks believe that this will encourage fat burning. And while some studies have found that low-to-moderate exercise in a fasted state does promote higher fat oxidation, long-term evidence is lacking.
According to a 2020 review by Nutrients, fat oxidation diminishes as exercise intensity increases. Additionally, some types of fasted cardio may encourage your body to break down muscle for energy, Shape reports. “I definitely do not recommend it,” registered dietitian and nutritionist Abby Chan told the publication. “Your body will always do better in a fed state, no matter what.” Moreover, fasted exercise can lead to short and long-term health repercussions. Some people may experience nausea, fatigue, and dizziness due to lower blood sugar. And in some cases, your body will adjust to using fat reserves for energy and start to store more fat than usual. So it’s always better to eat something instead of causing yourself harm.
Eating before an exercise routine of longer than 45 minutes will actually allow your body to have more energy, power, and stamina. Therefore, it’s important to follow a balanced diet to enhance your athletic performance. When eating before a workout, choose an easily digestible meal containing carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Eat about two or three hours before you exercise. Snacking on an energy bar, or fresh fruit is also a good idea along with a whey protein shake. It’s also important to stay hydrated by drinking water, sports drinks, or juice. To aid your body with recovery, eat foods containing carbohydrates, protein, and fiber within 30 minutes to two hours of finishing your workout.
Healthy proteins can boost your immune system and speed up healing. Foods that contain vitamins C and D, zinc, and calcium are also beneficial, Healthline reports. A few good post-exercise options include low-fat chocolate milk, fruit smoothies, energy bars, whole grain bread, soy milk, yogurt with berries, as well as nuts and seeds. When paired with a balanced diet, exercise is a great way to achieve good physical and mental health. But always be aware of advice from social media influencers, self-proclaimed fitness coaches, and anyone else who doesn’t hold a medical qualification or license.

Living with integrity means... behaving in ways that are in harmony with your personal values. When you live with constant gratitude, your life will become a living prayer. It takes a lot of courage to be the same person on the outside that you are on the inside. There has never been, and never again will be a human being like you. There is nothing ordinary about you. If you feel ordinary, it is because you have chosen to hide the extraordinary parts of yourself from the world.
What allows us, as human beings, to psychologically survive life on earth, with all of its pain, drama, and challenges, is a sense of purpose and meaning. At the end of our time on earth, if we have lived fully, we will not be able to say, 'I was always happy.' Hopefully, we will be able to say, 'I have experienced a lifetime of real moments, and many of them were happy moments.'

Meet Thessalonika Arzu-Embry: The genius who graduated high school at 11 and completed a doctorate at 17 - By Duchess Magazine

Talk about being way ahead of one’s contemporaries! Thessalonika Arzu Embry, boasts of an IQ of 199. Homeschooled and started college at 11, got her bachelor’s in psychology at 14, and at age 16 she had already bagged her master’s and proceeded for her doctorate in aviation psychology. “I feel honored for the opportunity to help others at an early age. I feel very glad to enter college and help people,” Arzu-Embry said. The Illinois native who began her Ph.D. program in aviation psychology in fall 2016, was inspired to join the world of aviation by her father, a military veteran and private pilot, who works at O’Hare International Airport.
“When I began to think about a profession, I chose one where I could make an impact,” Black Doctor reports her saying. “I feel honored for the opportunity to help others at an early age.” Also a published author of “Settled: Justice for All,” “In the Future,” “Then Genius Race,” “Jump the Education Barrier,” and “Perspicacious Investing”, Arzu-Embry has also developed apps for Google and Apple systems.  Although she loved to study, she also loves to play tennis during her spare time. Thessalonika’s mother, Wonder Embry, said she noticed her daughter’s exceptional gift and passion for learning while homeschooling her.
“I started reading to her my college books and she understood college material at 6 years old, 8 years old,” she said. “The first topic that I read about was consciousness in sleeping dreams and about the neurons in the brain and I thought that was very interesting to study,” Thessalonika recalled. According to her mom, she noticed her daughter’s love for learning which encouraged her to enroll the then 11-year-old in classes at Lake County College. “Academically and mentally she was prepared for it,” her mom said. “And I didn’t want to put a cap on it and hinder her and limit her if she was able to accomplish it. And I just went on and encouraged her to go ahead and make the most of it.”

One day you will ask me which is more important? My life or yours? I will say mine and you will walk away not knowing that you are my life. And ever has it been known that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation. It is wrong to think that love comes from long companionship and persevering courtship. Love is the offspring of spiritual affinity and unless that affinity is created in a moment, it will not be created for years or even generations. How beautiful to find a heart that loves you, without asking you for anything, but to be okay. It takes a minute to have a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone... but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

Every man is a missionary, now and forever, for good or for evil, whether he intends or designs it or not. He may be a blot radiating his dark influence outward to the very circumference of society, or he may be a blessing spreading benediction over the length and breadth of the world. But a blank he cannot be: there are no moral blanks; there are no neutral characters. Write your name in kindness, love and mercy on the hearts of the thousands you come in contact with year by year, and you will never be forgotten.
