Our friends are barometers of our own lives: We look to our BFFs to better understand how we're doing ourselves. Our friends help us make sense of what we have, what we aspire to, and what we truly long for. ~ Rachel Simmons ~
Happy Birthday Marilyn ! You've been a barometer to many members of the "Class of 1970". We salute you today and most of all your milestone achieved. As you celebrate with family and friends, may they shower you with love, gifts and the continued admiration that you have aspired to give others. I personally thank you for lessons learned from you while you toiled as our "Website Administrator". It's not been an easy chore and you left great footsteps to fulfill. We'd love to see you during the 50th Year Class Reunion. Until then, my "Simple Truth" would be for you to live "The Good Life"....enjoy your day !
Thank you Kenneth for the Great Bday shout out. Also thank You for the wonderful job that you do in keeping us informed on this web page. Thank all the class members that wished me a Happy, Happy Bday.
By taking responsibility for how you choose to respond to anything or anyone, you're aligning yourself with the beautiful dance of life.
~ Wayne Dyer ~
Thank you Patricia, James, Tommie and everyone else (DELORES BOOTHE (ARMSTRONG), RUBYSTENE BURKS (PUNCH), FELIPPA FIELDS (SCALES), ROBBIN HOUSTON, MARY KELLY (BASS), MARSHA MCMILLIAN (SHERROD), LARRY MILLIGAN CAROLYN MYERS (HARRIS),HELEN SUTTLES (SHAW), ORVA WALLS, HAZEL WILLIAMS (RICHARDSON) who has logged online to the website within the last 30 days! Know that everyone is always welcome to post a comment, so that others will know that you're alive and well among those of us who remain, from the "Class of 1970". Without a comment, only the Website Administrators know who has logged on and unless notified otherwise, some may think that you're among the deceased. August was a busy month unlike others and your comments are always welcome!
In July, most of us were concerned with the well-being of classmates who reside in California. Those that I called and talked with were only effected by the seismic tremors. Just another portion of being aligned with this beautiful dance of life. Well hurricane season is now upon us and Dorian has residents on the East Coast from Florida to North Carolina wondering about our invitation to the dance. The shape of the coastline from northern Florida through the Carolinas means there is a risk of significant storm-surge flooding even if the storm’s center remains just offshore.
Rest assured the families of Carolyn & Gerald Harris, Alvin Howlett (Florida), Carl O'Neal (Georgia), Margie McRae Reed (South Carolina), myself (North Carolina) and others have a hurricane / tornado plan in place, should an evacuation becomes necessary. We will be listening to any advice given by local emergency officials. With all of the national attention given to gun voilence these days, I'd prefer dancing with a hurricane. Folks have often asked how I like living in North Carolina. I simply reply that by moving from Memphis, I only traded earthquakes for hurricanes. Go figure!
This beautiful dance of life continues to be wonderful at our age. Hugh Sidney states that " A sense of humor... is needed armor. Joy in one's heart and some laughter on one's lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life". Keep us all within your prayers as Dorian comes and goes and may you all have a good grasp of life. Hopefully we'll see you at the "50th Year Class Reunion". Until then, may your daily journey cause you to feel like you're "Walking On Air"......
Each day offers us the gift of being a special occasion if we can simply learn that as well as giving, it is blessed to receive with grace and a grateful heart.
~ Sarah Ban Breathnach ~
Happy Birthday DeeDee! Today is indeed a special occasion for a celebration. Congratulations upon the achievement of this blessed milestone. May your family and friends extend the gifts of grace plus blessings from the heart that you rightly deserve today. Anne Lamott stated "I do not at all understand the mystery of grace - only that it meets us where we are, but does not leave us where it found us".Grace has been with you over the previous years and may Grace be unto you, with peace today as you celebrate.I hope to see you at the 50th Year Class Reunion.Enjoy your day with the Nelson Rangell theme of "GRACE"...It's your Destiny...
Storms of every sort, torrents, earthquakes, cataclysms, 'convulsions of nature,' etc., however mysterious and lawless at first sight they may seem, are only harmonious notes in the song of creation, varied expressions of God's love.
~ John Muir ~
Thanks Ruby for your prayers and thanks to all who may have uttered a prayer on behalf of class members living on the East Coast. Dorian was only a harmonious note in the songs of creation. I spoke with Alvin in West Palm Beach, FL and Gerald in Jacksonville, FL. Wind and rain was the common factor for us all. Everything is well with their families and my faith informs me that everyone else is also. Thanks again to everyone ! The season is not over.....
A few minutes ago every tree was excited, bowing to the roaring storm, waving, swirling, tossing their branches in glorious enthusiasm like worship. But though to the outer ear these trees are now silent, their songs never cease.
Everyone needs reminders that the fact of their being on this earth is important and that each life changes everything.
~ Marge Kennedy ~
You're welcome my friend. I hope that your day was filled with the Grace and Blessings wished upon you. Thank you for visiting the website and most of all, posting a response !!!!
"Great souls take advantage of every moment and every opportunity to give happiness to others through kindness in their thoughts; such souls are willing to overlook weaknesses and mistakes and have the desire to help everyone reach their potential."
~ Thought for Today-United Kingdom ~
Happy Birthday Jackie ! You've arrived at an awesome milestone of personal achievements. As you celebrate with family and friends, I ask that you reflect upon the "Thought for Today" from the United Kingdom. Before retiring as an "Educational Administrator", surely much like your mom, you "overlooked weaknesses and the mistakes of others to help everyone who showed a desire, reach their potential". May you receive the gifts of happiness, kind thoughts and blessings throughout the days to come. Indeed you are a "Great Soul" and I wish nothing but "Gentle Thoughts" from everyone during you celebration.......relax and enjoy the day my friend.....
Everyone wants to be appreciated, so if you appreciate someone, don't keep it a secret.
~ MaryKay Ash ~
Happy Birthday Lydia ! Congratulations upon reaching this fantastic milestone. May your day be complete with every form of appreciation presented to you by family and friends. I'm extending my debt of appreciation for remaining a lifetime friend. It was great to speak with you during the 45th Reunion. Surely you are/were appreciated by the vendors of whom you processed payments due as an Accounts Payment Specialist. Here's another appreciation, which shouldn't be kept a secret. The Alpha Elites appreciated you too...
The end of Summer is near, so celebrate your day in a Tim Bowman kind of way...Enjoy it with a "Summer Groove".....
Absence blots people out. We really have no absent friends.
~ Ambrose Bierce ~
Unfortunately, Major has not registered with us on the website. I've checked the Memphis CA Obituraries and he's not listed among the deceased. Should anyone know of his where abouts, please contact him, wish him a "Happy Birthday" and ask him to join us on the website....Let him know that like Kirk Franklin, we have been "Looking for You"...and we're making plans for the 50th Class Reunion......
The strong bond of friendship is not always a balanced equation; friendship is not always about giving and taking in equal shares. Instead, friendship is grounded in a feeling that you know exactly who will be there for you when you need something, no matter what or when. ~ Simon Sinek ~
Happy Birthday Fred! Milestone achieved!! May your family and friends make this a day of celebration unlike any from your past. Simon was on to something, because I can remember when your mom would give me a free coke, but charge you and your brothers. After getting off work from The Rivermont back in high school, we were almost arrested when a drunk fell on us, as the cops turned the corner of Vance & Main. Our bond of friendship grew even stronger when I was AWOL while visiting you with Cousin Ferguson in California, during our NAVY days. To say the least, you know exactly who will be there when you need something. It's not always balanced, as Simon says, but we all have influences in our lives who will be there, no matter what or when. Should you decide to go down on Beale Street to celebrate, have a Nick Colionne kind of day and "Sting Like A King B"....Thanks so much for your friendship, enjoy your day...
If you have not stopped by John T. and Nightingale's tent at the Heritage Classic Tailgate you are missing out on a very enjoyable time. The tent layout was very comfortable. The music, food and comraderie were on point. Saturday 9/14 will be a more eventful with food and drinks. The tent is at Location 427 beside the Pipkin Building. I know you will have a great time.
Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present. ~ Jim Rohn ~
Happy Birthday Mary ! Happiness is achieving the next milestone related to ageing, in this life that we're blessed to live. Each time I receive a new notification from the "other" Classcreator Website, I usually think that you've posted another picture of you and your family. You all are so happy in the images that you share and the happiness never changes. Appears that Jim Rohn is correct because "it is something YOU designed for the present". You may not remember "Sky King", the picture or the radio program, but it was narrated by a guy named Earl Nightingale. He stated that we should "Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, weather it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored". I'm of the opinion that your family and friends have planned a fantastic birthday celebration for you! May your day be full of blessings and gifts! The happiness that you display with your family should be a beacon of light to everyone. Continue to share the encouragement. Join us on our class website and post some images of this joyous birthday occasion. Looking forward to hopefully seeing you during the 50th Class Reunion. Start the celebration early and have a Marcus Anderson kind of day....."Let The Praise Begin".....
Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution experience life's deepest joy: true fulfillment. ~ Tony Robbins ~
Happy Birthday Helen! What a life we live and what an accomplishment! One of our classmates stated that it's going to be exciting to celebrate our 50th Class Reunion, when there are those among us who've not reached the blessed age of 50. May your family and friends help you to celebrate this day with all of the love and affection that you deserve! Tony is a philanthropist and life coach, much like you've become as a conselor, trained to give guidance on personal, social, or psychological problems. Your determination to make the 50th Class Reunion a success is totally sincere. Your selfless contributions may not be understood by everyone, but everyone's not a counselor either....As you celebrate this particular birthday, do it in the key of Marcus Anderson and realize that everyone requires a little "Understanding"....enjoy your day, my friend.....
Obviously, we live in a society where ageing is feared. But, to me, the alternative to getting old isn't that great. I've got friends much older than me and much younger, and I love that. It means you get to teach as well as learn. ~ Stella McCartney ~
Birthday Greetings to you Hazel ! The BravoZulu Award is something that you're familiar with. Having reached this milestone in life is a prodigious accomplishment. May your family and friends honor you with an enormous celebration. I'm also a former FEDEX employee and had the occasion to learn from older individuals, so that I might teach those younger during my tenure. Surely, you went through the same process, prior to your retirement. What I like most about the quote from Stella is what she says about the fear of ageing and the alternative to getting older. Today, we still have older/younger friends and family, plus we're still learning and teaching. At the end of the celebration, pull up a chair in your backyard underneath your personal "Shade Tree" and reflect upon your blessings while having a Cal Harris Jr kind of day...
Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.
~ Denis Waitley ~
Happy Birthday Lillie ! May your day of celebration be full of the Love, Grace and Gratitude that you've extended to others. As a Medical Administrative Assistant (MAA), you're probably one the first persons to greet individuals when they visit a Physicians office. Usually unhappy because they're there, you start them on one of the most important spiritual experiences of their day. Whenever I visit my Physician, it's the MAA who has completed the "behind the scenes" tasks to make my appointment complete. Without your dedication and abilities, the clinical side of the medical office would be in total disarray. Congratulations upon reaching the age of 67, which gives us the Spiritual Happiness that comes from the experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude. We've been blessed ! As you celebrate this milestone, have a "Pieces of a Dream" type of day......"No Assembly Required".....
