Description
The essential function of the position within the organization is to coordinate the planning, implementation and evaluation of special projects, programs or specific functions in assigned District department. The position is responsible for researching and ensuring District compliance with applicable laws, regulations and guidelines; gathering and reporting on data associated with assigned project; providing information or training of staff, volunteers or the public, and performing related professional and administrative tasks as assigned. Projects are time specific and have predefined goals and objectives. The position works independently, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Coordinates, plans, directs and implements all components of division or department specific projects.

Develops project plans, goals and objectives; reads and interprets program contracts and guidelines; keeps abreast of any changes that could affect the program and takes necessary action.

May prepare grant requests and supporting documentation for program/project funding.

Track the progress of all projects by preparing, monitoring and maintaining reports and correspondence outlining developments, deliverables and timing of projects.

Coordinates projects, activities and resources with other divisions, departments, outside government and private agencies, and other professionals as appropriate.

Responsible for research, report writing, process streamlining, event planning, data analysis, and other areas related to project management.

This posting will be used to create a pool of candidates for the 2010-2011 school year.


This position works collaboratively with the entire School Coordinating Team, under the auspices of the Director of Safe Schools and Alternative Programs, to assist students in developing and becoming better able to function socially, emotionally, and academically in the school setting. The Behavioral Specialist will implement positive, assessment-based interventions for students with identified behavior problems, designed to help reduce student risk factors and barriers to academic success. In addition, the Specialist will focus on enhancement of classroom supports by providing consultation, training, and demonstrations to classroom teachers in the development of facilitative environments and risk reduction strategies.

Provides assistance to classroom teachers in developing effective behavioral management/motivation systems, and classroom organizations skills.

Provides teacher instruction in the use of positive behavioral interventions (i.e., strategies to prevent problem behavior, teach adaptive skills, and use reinforcers effectively).

Assists teachers in reducing/eliminating their use of coercive, exclusionary, intrusive, restrictive, or otherwise punitive interventions.

Implements methods to promote communication regarding best practices among faculty and with parents.

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Social Science, Education or related field from an accredited four year institution.

Two (2) years of experience working with high- risk youth in K-12, residential or day treatment program preferred. Prior experience developing and implementing positive behavioral intervention strategies. Prior teaching and/or substitute experience desired.

This position, under the direct supervision of the Security Supervisor and/or Coordinator, for monitoring schools and other facilities for burglary and/or unauthorized entry using the Sonitrol Sonic silent audio alarm system, access, and cameras; maintaining reports, and assist with training for console operators.

Responsible for setting the alarm equipment in the proper operational settings and keeping track of authorized person in the protected premise. Responsible for alarm monitoring of schools and other facilities for burglary, unauthorized entry, and/or fire alarms and dispatching Memphis Police Department, Mobile Security Officers, and Memphis Fire Department. Responsible for coordinating with school personnel and alarm technicians the necessary forms for keeping the equipment in operating order. Makes necessary emergency notification to security and staff personnel regarding any serious injuries, physical plant damages, inclement weather, or news worthy events. Responsible for effective radio communications with security personnel in the field and with other parties on the busing and maintenance network. Generates and maintains accurate necessary records and/or logs of all activities while on duty. Keeps material and supplies available for the operators use. Assists in training new operators. Responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality on security and administrative matters.
 
Educational Requirements
High school diploma or GED equivalency. 
Minimum Qualifications
Typing, ten key adding machine, and computer experience preferred. Never been convicted of a felony offense and willing to submit to a background check. Must have good verbal and writing skills and be able to communicate effectively; must possess good human relation skills. Must be able to manage several pieces of equipment, conduct other security related activities, and be able to function accurately and intelligently under stressful conditions at the same time. Usually the senior operator holds this position. Must be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position including but not limited to communicating by phone and in person, able to visually see objects and read small print reports, able to speak before diverse groups of people, and lift 20 pounds.
